Questions & answers

What should customers know about your pricing? (E.g. estimates, discounts, fees, package pricing)
£35 beginners private salsa lesson £40 improvers private £50 advanced private £60 for couples private £100 -£150 for groups (£200 if two teachers required) team building , corporate and hen nights £300 for wedding dance x6 lessons £500 - £1500 choreography depending on project £200-£1000 performance teams depending on requirements
What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
I require as much information about the project as possible; to include what the customer wishes to achieve.
What education or training is most relevant to your work?
I have two associate degrees in dance Modern & Freestyle . My performance career has spanned nearly 35 years , and I am still performing occasionally . I took both a foundation in dance at The Rubicon Cardiff , and a 3 year course at The teachers Center in Eltham , my teachers were examiners , and I trained extensively as a teacher of dance. I have been performing and choreographing from a very young age. I have a female dance team who perform. I work for Bar Salsa and can often host classes and events at this famous bar. I trained in cuban , cross body on1 and On2 salsa .I lead and follow . I am connected to all the teachers snd performers in the modern Latin street dances . I am insured .
Do you have tips or advice for someone hiring a pro in your line of work?
Know what you wish to achieve , and give the professional a precise guideline of the project . Take into account where the project will take place , type of flooring lighting and sound . Have a budget to include travel/ accommodation, if necessary. Take into account how much time you will require from the professional. If using your own dancers do explain their skills set and level .Projects often cost more if dancers need to be sourced individually by look or age range depending on skill set required and availability .
What questions should customers have ready before speaking to pros about their project?
What is your expertise in (whatever they wish to achieve) skill set is the most important, often more important than if they have achieved in similar projects Have you done any similar projects Availability Insurance You can ask for video material and photographs of the dancers Age range and look of the dancers if this is important to you . Distance and location from the professional Any extra requirement you may have eg - for parties we have often been asked for dancers in costume to serve welcome cocktails , or teaching a class at a birthday we have been asked to get the crowd up onto the dance floor and keep the party going , film we have been asked to stay after our show to be in certain background shots , hen nights I have been asked to bring accessories , wedding dances I have been asked to perform on the day with the couple ie dirty dancing assisted lift; try to cover all bases .Out sourcing ... If you require any other entertainment for example I have been asked if I could find live bands .
What are some good examples of past customers?
Full choreography and performance for the military Barclays Bank , team building project and show night , choreography for teams Nottingham university student competition choreography (they won I was so proud of them) Wedding dances - often dirty dancing is requested , or simple choreography to salsa or bachata songs Hen nights - usually salsa and made fun Team building , to include working together , trust exercises , connection , working as a team Singles dating evenings - to include the couples getting to know each other and rotation Private lessons , fusion and latin dance classes - often technical breakdown, occasionally for a couples anniversary, or valentines day, groups often for Xmas/birthday parties . I have also danced in Film work, and been asked to contribute choreography , as well as the occasional music video . Professional choreography for international performance teams , as well as student team performances . Shows for charity events Teaching and performances for latin themed nights and international congress. Co ordination of event sourcing planning and implementing with in a budget
Describe a recent project that went well. Scope? How long did it take?
My professional team Seraphim Dance , recently performed (just before covid19 lockdown) for the Ideas Stores London . A government funded body who bring performance arts to their local borough of Tower hamlets . New choreography trained once a week, took 3 months to complete . It was a fusion dance to celebrate Afro Latin Dance, combined with contemporary, and jazz; influenced by Yemaya a deity of the Orishas from the Yoruba region of Santeria . Costumed in blue and white , wearing long skirts and head turbans . They were extremely well received by the student dancers who attended, their friends and the community involved , many of whom spoke to me after the performance .
How did you first get into this line of work?
I was a child performer , and on leaving school I immediately enrolled in a foundation dance course at The rubicon in Cardiff . I have undertaken extensive studies; which are continuous in the dance world . I came to Latin Dance through former 3 times UK champion Susana Montero who nurtured my skill set. As I work part time at Bar Salsa in sales and events , I am also connected to the entire dance scene .
