Hi! My name is Carrie. I’m a registered yoga instructor, specialising in Vinyasa flow and Hatha yoga, with my own twist drawing inspiration from the natural world. I had been practising yoga personally for 5 years, before training in Rishikesh, India to be an instructor and have now been teaching internationally for a 2 years. I first became hooked on yoga when I was studying for my undergraduate degree, as it helped me keep calm when things got stressful. I always felt so blissfully serene and healthy after a class, it was almost addictive! For me, the goal of yoga is to come back into the body and present moment, taking care of yourself, while being playful and feeling good! Whether you want to be stronger, stretchier or fitter, yoga is a powerful way to do it, but unlike general fitness classes, it genuinely makes you feel happier. ▽ My Background ▽ When I was younger I competed in gymnastics and trampolining, which was quite harsh on the body and mind. Discovering yoga, was like discovering the antidote to this! You practise nothing but compassion and gratitude for your body, appreciating what it can do, without comparison to others. With such a different approach, it really surprised me that with gentle, consistent effort, I could reach positions I never thought possible before! As an undergraduate and masters student, I studied Biomedical Science. I love to bring this scientific perspective into the practice, giving an understanding of how yoga benefits your body and mind. What's fascinating to me, is that many of the benefits spoken of hundreds of years ago are now being proven and understood by modern research. For example, yoga and meditation practices have been shown to beneficially reduce inflammation throughout the body, which could be seen as a more accurate description of balancing the “healing energy” of the body. ▽ The Lessons ▽ The goal is to make you feel good in the moment and healthier in the future! I love to teach private yoga classes because I can dedicate all of my attention to one or two people. Ensuring you have the correct alignment, with lots of assistance and props, adapting the class depending on how you are feeling on that particular day. Nothing bothers me more in a group class than seeing someone being ignored as they struggle through at the back! We will build up creative, flowing sequences of connected poses (“asanas”), gearing up to a peak asana or “opening” an area of the body. The pace and poses will always be tailored to your needs on the day. Toward the end of the class, we can take the pace down, relaxing into deep stretches, allowing your warmed up fascia (the tissue surrounding your muscles) and tendons to lengthen. These are often neglected by typical fitness stretches and are the key to building real flexibility and freedom of movement! I will also guide you through breathing techniques (pranayama). They are the foundation of yoga and have incredible health benefits, such as reducing blood pressure and strengthening the immune system. Yoga practices always finish with Shivasana, or “corpse pose”. With your body fully stretched, the excess energy exerted and your mind focused, you are able to meditate much more deeply. This is often the most rewarding part of the class, as when life becomes hectic, giving yourself time to do nothing but let go and relax, can be very healing. I personally love to use aromatherapy and light massage-type adjustments at this time because I find it really helps people fall even further into a rejuvenating, relaxed state. I see Carrie once a week and it’s the thing I most look forward to ! I suffer from multiple sclerosis which has affected the mobility in my right leg and has left no with no balanace what so ever, after 6 session with Carrie all of the above has changed drastically and has over all improved my wellbeing and day to say life . Not only does Carrie give you the best of her time at your session but she also writes me new routines to do at home based on my Improvmemts within the session which has lead to me doing a daily yoga routine . I would HIGHLY recommend booking a private yoga session as it will change your life. I will be continuing with seeing Carrie and look forward to my progession.
I would highly recommend Carrie. From the start she has been really approachable and responsive. We spoke on the phone about my yoga experience and what I was hoping to get out of my individual sessions. She has always kept my goals in mind. She has been aware of my limits and helped me work in my comfort zone and at the same time comfortably challenge that. Carrie is a very kind, thoughtful, creative and knowledgeable teacher. I would highly recommend her.
Couldn't recommend Carrie enough. I was totally new to yoga, but knew I needed to do something about my terrible flexibility! As you can imagine I wasn't keen on going to a class full of bendy people, so I decided to use Bidvine to find a private teacher. I'm so glad I went with Carrie! She made me feel really comfortable from the start, and was always encouraging and patient with me. I could tell she tailored to sessions to me personally, plus she gave lots of adjustments with props etc, meaning I've made considerable progress over the weeks. I can actually touch my toes for the first time in years! I also didn't anticipate how good I'd feel after our weekly classes (especially with the aromatherapy she uses during shivasana). You definitely won't regret hiring Carrie!
I took several Vinyasa Flow classes with Carrie from Natural Spirit Yoga and I most warmly recommend joining her classes, as she is such a competent and empathetic teacher! I found her classes were well thought through, starting gently, before slowly building up to the more challenging poses. Possibilities for modifications were always given, so both beginners and more advanced students were catered for. There were also some beautiful transitions between the postures. I felt the more strenuous sequences were perfectly balances with slower phases or moments of relaxation. During the class Carrie attended to every student, helped with alignment and gave me some really useful assistance. At the end of her classes we were guided through a relaxation exercise and each participant was given a little head-massage. After her class I felt wonderful- with my whole body worked and relaxed, my mind centered and peaceful. Thank you so much Carrie ❤ am already looking forward to the next classes!
Leading a very hectic and stressful lifestyle I was searching for something that would help me to feel better, clear my mind and feel more energised I was therefore hugely grateful to Carrie when she introduced Natural Spirit Yoga Beginner Classes that ultimately made a huge difference to my well-being. Carrie is a patient teacher who opened a world of yoga that is gentle yet subtly challenging without feeling intimidated which was exactly what I needed to make me comfortable and motivated in every class which is perfect for beginners. I found Carrie could deliver instructions that were easy to follow keeping the mood relaxed with a low intensity workout yet improved my tone muscle massively. Carrie is very talented and very attentive to her clients and her warm and kind-heartedness personality makes each session fun allowing her students to feel comfortable. A brilliant experience providing me with a fantastic introduction to Yoga, I cannot wait to progress further under Carrie’s teaching.
