Singing Lessons
Aileen S.'s review on Oct 14, 2020

I felt inspired, encouraged and felt comfortable to risk and stretch myself. I was never made wrong but encouraged to ask questions and explore further. Lara is very professional in her approach which makes the experience feel unique and special.

Singing Lessons
Naomi L.'s review on Oct 02, 2020

Lara has worked as a singing teacher for my two primary school age sons for about a year. Her lessons are fun and they really look forward to them each week. I have really noticed how their singing voices have become much stronger since they have worked with her and they are becoming more confident and expressive performers. She is very good at highlighting their strengths and also focusing on what they need to develop, but always in an encouraging, non-critical way. She is also open to suggestions from parents and very easy to talk to. Her own musical training makes her a good person to work with pupils on theory and sight singing in addition to vocal technique; this is also helpful for exam preparation, if this is a path you want to take. But what I like most about Lara is her flexibility to tailor lessons to an individual child’s needs and preferences and the energy, warmth and laughter she brings to her work. I can always feel her passion for singing and my sons love the time they spend with her as a result!

What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
If interested in lessons, we'll arrange a Trial Session to begin with (at a discounted rate of £35) to meet one another and go through an initial consultation so I can find out a little about you and what you are seeking/how I can be of service. We'll then go through a series of warmups, vocal exercises, and work on a song, usually something you know well. This will be carried on into further sessions, looking at technique, repertoire, style, performance, theory, tailored to the needs and wants of the student.
What education or training is most relevant to your work?
Royal Academy of Music, London - PgDip Musical Theatre (Distinction) - Including methodology/theory in the Estill Method, Acting-Through-Song, Pop styles, Speech Training and different Vocal Styles and Voice Qualities University of Leeds - BA(Hons) Music (First Class) - Majoring in Vocal Performance (Classical) National Youth Choir of Great Britain 2007 to 2011 - Rich Choral training and skills including Sight-Singing, Rhythm and Pitch exercises, Alexander Technique, Voice Lessons, Chamber Group Singing, Mass Choir Singing.
What are some good examples of past customers?
Previous teaching/students include: Private One-To-One Tuition, Online and Face-to-Face (2 years): Age range of students: 6 - 82 years I've taught 2 young brothers regularly for the past year, Face-to-Face and Online. One is 6 years old and the other is 9. They love to do Musical Theatre and music from films and I also teach them music theory and sight-reading. One recently passed his Grade 2 Musical Theatre (ABRSM) through me, with a Merit. I've taught an 82-year-old woman remotely for the past 4 months over the lockdown period and onwards. She is an ex-Scottish Opera performer and sings classical and musical theatre repertoire. I've been helping her to re-engage with her love of singing and teaching her specific vocal techniques to enhance her sound and give her more ease. Other Teaching experience: Monkey Music Teacher (4 years): Early years, 3 months - 3 years Peripatetic Singing Teacher at The Archer Academy, Finchley (2 and a half years): 11-16 years Choral Director: (2 and a half years) Archer Community Choir Peripatetic Music/Singing Teacher at Belvue Highschool (Special Educational Needs) (1 and a half years): 11-16 years
Describe a recent project that went well. Scope? How long did it take?
Over lockdown this year, I co-created and musically arranged a virtual mass a cappella video in aid of the Care Worker's Charity to help them raise money for their key workers. It amassed around 30,000 views online and featured over 60 musical theatre singers, including a handful of celebrities - Sam Bailey (X Factor), Divina de Campo (RuPaul's Drag Race UK) and Jamie Lambert (Presenter and memeber of Collabro, Britain's Got Talent). It took us around a month to organise and complete, and I was featured on a couple of local Radio Shows, BBC Tees and BBC London after the release, talking to promote the project and the charity.
