About Bee-Cat Design and Document Services

If you need someone to design professional-looking PowerPoint presentations and Word documents, or to produce brochures, booklets, posters, banners and flyers then look no further – I’m the woman for the job! I’ve spent over 20 years working in high-pressure, deadline-driven investment banking, and financial services firms. I am able to follow strict brand guidelines. Being trained in confidentiality and customer services, I’m calm, polite and efficient. I also design materials for private individuals and not-for-profit organisations - logos, invitations, placards, shop vouchers and so forth. I’m happy to work on anything from long, wide-scoped projects to small one-off jobs. If you think I might be able to help you, get in touch now!

I am delighted with the efficient, professional and value for money service that Elaine Garrod provides and impressed with her talent and creativity as a designer. She actively listened to what I wanted and then translated my ideas into high quality bespoke products that has to date included leaflets, posters and other communications. I found her advice, excellent communication skills and ability to meet deadlines at short notice invaluable and I would highly recommend her.

Our local political party needed a high quality electoral communication to be distributed. Elaine took the brief and produced a high quality leaflet which was very effective on the doorstep.

Professional, great quality and fast.. it was a delight to work with Elaine. We reached out to her with quite a tight deadline and she responded brilliantly. She listened and instantly got the brief and turned around three potential designs when we'd only asked for one within 24 hours. Everyone has been happy with her work.

Pauline J.'s review on Oct 05, 2020

I was extremely pleased with the quality of the design and attention given to any adjustments which I requested. The design was for an 80th Birthday invitation, which required a considerable amount of detail to make the requirements to suit all the guests expected regarding the places to park and site of the venue. A photograph of hostess as a young child was carefully placed and the back of the card displayed various events which happened in the year of birth, so the art work and text were very pleasing.

Questions & answers

What should customers know about your pricing? (E.g. estimates, discounts, fees, package pricing)
Pricing is negotiable and will depend on the value of the work to the customer, and the nature of the work. Some jobs might be more suited to an hourly rate, some to a flat fee and some to a combination of both.
What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
I take a thorough brief from my customer. I find out what they want, what the output will be, e.g. if it's PowerPoint work, do they intend to present it on a large or small screen, or is it for print? If it's a document, will it be printed or sent electronically, or both? I like to find out as much as possible about the job - who the intended audience or recipient is going to be, whether my customer already has design ideas in mind, whether there are colours or types of imagery they would like me to use or avoid and so forth. I discuss deadlines and budget in order to manage my customers' expectations.
What education or training is most relevant to your work?
I've learnt my trade mostly on the job but have done courses at D&AD including 'Ideas, Ideas, Ideas' and 'Bravery in Graphic Design'. I'm currently studying for a diploma in Graphic Design with One Education.
What questions should customers have ready before speaking to pros about their project?
What is the format of the job - i.e. a printed flyer, onscreen presentation, electronic document. What is your budget? When are your deadlines, i.e. first review, final deadline for completion. Do you have design ideas in mind already? Have you seen something you like that you could send me for inspiration, or are you happy for me to come up with something myself? Do you want to be able to edit the content yourself or do you want me to do all the editing. (I can produce brochures using PowerPoint rather than InDesign if you'd rather edit them yourself).
What are some good examples of past customers?
Those who keep calm and explain clearly what they want. Those who listen to my advice about design and layout, e.g. not trying to cram too much content onto one page or slide. Those who pay promptly.
How did you first get into this line of work?
I've worked as a Desktop Publisher and Graphic Designer in blue chip companies for over 20 years after previously working as a team secretary in which creating PowerPoint presentations and long Word documents was part of the job. I'm also good at languages and grammar and hope to add to my skills by getting a qualification in proofing and editing.
