About Ashraful Khan

With over 10,000 hours of Personal Training provided to a highly satisfied clientele I have now taken the step to start a small PT studio of my own. The services I offer involve honesty and transparency, only offering services that I am certain to provide nothing short of an exceptional service, customer experience and value for money. Simply put, if I can’t offer you the very best I don’t offer it at all. With over 13 years of experience in Boxing as well as 16 years of competing in various sports at a high level including Football and Powerlifting, I have built a modest portfolio of experience and qualifications that have enabled me to work with a broad demographic of clients from the elderly right up to high level athletes. I am constantly looking to improve and add to the services I provide and this is done through a minimum of 10 days of continued professional development via enrolling on to various courses per year as well as keeping up to date with the latest scientific research. I've been training with Ash for about a year, aiming for 1–2 sessions per week. He has always been really supportive and positive, even when I’ve struggled with injuries, and motivation in general! I respect his knowledge and have felt confident that whatever he asks me to do I can achieve it. He always knows how hard to push me; enough to challenge, but not so much that I loose belief. And he's never laughed at me even when I’ve been completely hopeless! Thank you Ash :)

Ash is above all a decent person, sound values, curious about life and engaging company. He’s a good person to spend time with. He’s also a brilliant , knowledgeable and motivating trainer - he pushes when required , goes a little easier and mixes things up when he sees the tank might be running empty. He also is constantly trying to learn and grow himself - so he feels like a partner rather than a trainer. Can’t go wrong with Ash.

The best PT I’ve had. Not only did I lose body fat and build massive mass, I did it would close coaching and support - Which really fixed up my mobility and posture - given I’m in an office-based job. Ash is a great PT with fantastic knowledge, and can work up the perfect workout for all body types. Questions & answers

What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
The first session with any client will involve a full assessment where we will go through a body composition test as well as a movement screening. We will also discuss short and long term goals related to what they want to achieve from their training journey. This will help me to draw up a bespoke training plan to help eliminate any guesswork and provide the fastest possible route to achieving our goals.
Do you have tips or advice for someone hiring a pro in your line of work?
Always ask questions when unsure. A good fitness professional will be able to answer anything you are unsure of in a concise and easy to understand manner. It will also display that you are getting the service that you’ve paid for and that the session isn’t just made up of ‘fillers’ to make up the duration of the session. Also, another red flag for me would be to be wary of a trainer who jumps into providing sessions without prior assessments. You wouldn’t get treated by a doctor without a consultation or have your car fixed by a mechanic before an initial check up.
What questions should customers have ready before speaking to pros about their project?
Generally, as a fitness professional I tend to do most of the questioning as the more I know about a person the better I’m able to do my job. If there were questions I’d recommend it would be the following: 1. How can your skills and previous experience help me to achieve my goals? 2. Highlight any concerns you might have before hand (injuries, medical conditions) and ask the fitness professional if this is something they feel comfortable taking on (I usually ask this anyway as in the rare ocassion a client May be beyond my scope of practice in which case I may refer them over to a specialist in the field)
What are some good examples of past customers?
Alya is client of mine who I’ve been training for 4 years now. She is consistent with her training but more importantly she is realistic with goals and her capabilities. What I mean by this is that when something is too easy or too difficult for her (be it homework exercise routines, PT sessions or diet plans) she doesn’t hesitate to let me know. As fitness professionals the service you pay us for stretches beyond an hours session. If the job is done right then it requires monitoring training sessions, food, sleep, mental state and a host of other things that contribute to overall wellbeing. This is job is made to be much easier when there is a healthy level of communication between client and trainer. Thus, ensuring that you get the most out of the service.
Describe a recent project that went well. Scope? How long did it take?
A client managed to achieve his first every 100kg deadlift and a 20kg weighted plank only 3 months into ever walking into a gym and at the age of 64! He quotes ‘I have 4 masters degrees yet this feels like my biggest accomplishment’ . This was a huge success for me as it demonstrated that I was able to provide real value to a persons life.
How did you first get into this line of work?
Whilst at university studying accounting and finance. I would constantly find myself reading sports science research papers (parents weren’t too keen on me taking it up as a subject). I soon realised that I couldn’t see myself working a desk job so I took a bold move to quit university and pursue all relevant qualifications (and then some) towards becoming a fitness professional
