Once finance, if needed, has been secured, I can then guide you through the remaining process, taking the initial plan through to reality. Existing businesses. For some it can often be internal issues that are suppressing profitability, while others it's not maximising revenue when they should, many companies need to review their costs base and discuss these with their with suppliers, all companies should regularly review their operations and strategies to improve turnover and profitability. What should customers know about your pricing? (E.g. estimates, discounts, fees, package pricing)
After initial contact has been made, and before any commitment is made by the potential client I always outline and discuss the fee or fee structure. All pricing quotes are tailored to your specific needs and requirements, I will arrange package pricing for set amounts of work or projects, for example, a set price to produce business plans or financial reports. I will also happily work on retainers.
What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
I always hold an initial conversation/consultation with the client to ascertain exactly what their needs and requirements are. Sometimes it's clear what's needed right from the start, and we can proceed straight away, on other occasions some additional research/thought may be required after which I would set out a proposal or an agreed schedule of what's required based on the conversation and subsequent findings. I would discuss those thoughts and findings with the client and only then look at formalising an agreement.
What education or training is most relevant to your work?
I have over 30 years of experience in managing and directing businesses. setting up new businesses, project managing acquisitions and takeovers and business transformation. I started at trainee entry-level rose through all the tiers of management and on through to board director level.
Do you have tips or advice for someone hiring a pro in your line of work?
For many simply asking for, or recognising you need help can be very difficult. I would suggest speaking to a few different potential professionals and discuss your needs with them. once you have then think about how easy it was to talk to them, did they listen, did they fully understand your requirements, do they communicate with you in a way you understood, where they someone you felt you could work with. depending on the project you could end up spending a lot of time either communicating with or physically with this person.
What questions should customers have ready before speaking to pros about their project?
Try and have as clear as possible understanding of what it is you are looking for.
What are some good examples of past customers?
I have been fortunate to have helped numerous clients either establish their new businesses and have advised clients on a diverse range. From restaurants, bars, pubs, beauty saloon, security company, hotels, retail, negotiated international distribution deals. working with clients in the last years I have sorted out planning permissions and change of use permissions, negotiated lease and rental agreements. applied for Liquor licenses.
Describe a recent project that went well. Scope? How long did it take?
In the late Summer of 2019, I was contacted by someone who wanted to open a restaurant, after some initial discussions he decided to proceed, after viewing several properties he really liked one that was actually much larger than he felt he was originally going to go for. I was able to negotiate with the lease holding company a rental agreement that was significantly reduced. and while as always lease negotiations are a long process from the heads of terms to signing the lease took less than a month. We then had to completely fit out the Kitchen and the restaurant with Equipment and furniture, source suppliers for everything. We were able to take a partially empty shell to an open trading restaurant in just 5 weeks of being granted access to the premises.
How did you first get into this line of work?
23 Years ago I decided to go it alone as a consultant, my first client after three months asked me to join their senior management team after three months, Given they were looking to expand their business I thought it a good idea. i remained with that company for 20 years, guiding them through a massive period of growth and change. as that companies desire to continue to grow wained in recent years I found myself becoming more and more involved with friends and family who were looking to set up new businesses. this re-ignited in me the buzz and feeling you get when you take an initial idea and develop it in to reality so i decided to go back to business consulting.
