- Firstly, I’d like to understand your personal musical interests and listening habits. This would include for example: your favourite drummer, artist, singer or pianist.. etc. I will ask questions such as “What would you like to learn?”. And “How would you like to apply your inspiration in your own musical creation?”. This will give me a good idea of how I am able to guide you as your tutor. I will be able to guide accordingly, whether you want to learn your favourite song on drums, learn rudiments or even to know how a compressor works, these will be the things we will outline from the very beginning. Secondly, I believe that the student should have the freedom to decide what they would like to learn and understand as a musician, and not to be restricted by a brief. That way I can then suggest particular readings, pieces of music or even suggest a particular drummer or engineer that you could watch as homework and in your free time, to then practice and learn from together in lessons.

My Bachelors and Masters degrees have helped me grow and develop as a musician over the space of 4 years. More than anything though, an important factor in seeing true progression as a musician is being sociable, meeting and surrounding yourself with the right people and being open to learning and listening to others, in order to acquire as much knowledge as possible.
