About The Music Tree - Singing Lessons / Piano Lessons

We are highly qualified (+DBS checked and trained) and classically trained experienced singers who have travelled the world singing in the greatest concert halls and opera houses. Now we are offering the wealth of our experience through singing and piano teaching in Leicestershire and through online teaching. We love the passion and enthusiasm we all have for music. Our lessons are individually tailored to each pupil as we are interested in what motivates you and helps you to learn - so lessons start with where you're at on that particular day - so you can really understand what you're studying and can put it vocally into practice. We cover warm ups, vocal technique, songs in all genres, languages and styles from classical to pop, rock to opera, jazz to musical theatre. Whether you sing in the bath, a choir, in musical theatre, are a budding professional performer or just sing for fun we can help you achieve your potential. We are also experienced in helping pupils to rehabilitate their singing voices after illness or injury.

Singing Lessons
Victoria-Jade M.'s review on Sep 03, 2020

My lessons have been incredibly helpful, especially during lock down and I feel that I have made a great improvement over my time taking lessons with Martyn; he was professional and took into account my needs during my lessons to ensure that I got the most out of them, giving me helpful feedback and finding ways to help me understand the feedback I was getting better.

Singing Lessons
Chris F.'s review on Sep 01, 2020

Personally introduced by another student pre-covid and transformed my singing ability (independently assessed ). Peri covid I wondered if it would work ok (I'm doing music theory and continuing singing lessons) and pleasingly it does still work. A bit weird not being n the same room but that would be true for any teaching / training now. I'm not very tecchy so its taken a bit of getting used to but I wouldnt want to work with anyone else

Singing Lessons
Jeff H.'s review on Aug 24, 2020

Martyn is invariably encouraging and brings out the best in me. He has an easy way with him and his singing lessons can be demanding but are always uplifting. I inevitably leave in a more positive frame of mind than when I arrive. He has a vast repertoire, which prompts me to try and find songs which are new to him! All in all, our sessions are a joy.

Singing Lessons
Jane M.'s review on Aug 21, 2020

In just a few weeks, Julie has transformed my singing. She immediately identified my bad habits and showed me ways to improve my technique. She knows how to bring out the best in her students.

Thank you for your kind words Jane - you took those ideas I gave you and ran with them - well done on all that improvement! Good work!

Questions & answers

What should customers know about your pricing? (E.g. estimates, discounts, fees, package pricing)
A free initial consultation of 45 mins for every prospective pupil. Piano £15 per half hour/ £30 per hour Singing £20 per half hour/ £40 per hour
What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
We offer telephone and email contact to answer questions and an initial FREE 45 mins consultation lessons to meet on a Zoom call, discuss your musical interests and get straight down to work on some basics so the pupil can get the feel of what our lessons are like so you can be assured that you are making the right choice of teacher.
What education or training is most relevant to your work?
We both trained at the Royal College of Music gaining ARCM, Dip RCM Performance and DipRCM Teacher qualifications. Continuing professional development courses taken recently include: Alexander Technique for Singers, Singing and Menopause, Transgender Voice, NLP for Singers, Vocal Rehabilitation, Vocal Stretching, Performance Anxiety.
Do you have tips or advice for someone hiring a pro in your line of work?
We would recommend that you feel safe and comfortable with the teacher. The teacher should be verified by the ISM ideally, fully qualified and experienced. Always take a consultation lesson - you don't want to be put off by a teaching style that doesn't suit you - music should be fun. You wouldn't buy a car without a test drive - so test drive that first lesson and make sure you come away feeling like you want to go back for more!
What questions should customers have ready before speaking to pros about their project?
What is the teachers availability for lessons? What is their pricing structure? What is the cancellations policy? How do they teach? Where did the teacher train? How long have they been teaching for? Are they verified by the ISM or similar teaching professional body? Are they DBS checked and trained?
What are some good examples of past customers?
Some of our pupils are professional singers and teachers themselves in Classical Music and Music Theatre. Some are training to be Pop industry professionals and teachers. Others play and sing for fun, in choirs, some take exams, some make recordings, some write songs - music is an enthusiastic passionate thing - a happy customer is one who wants to learn more. We're still teaching children of past customers and parents of past pupils - 2nd generations in some cases! Our pupils tend to stay with us which is lovely and keeps us on our toes because we always need to find something new to teach them and inspire them with.
Describe a recent project that went well. Scope? How long did it take?
A recent pupil came unable to sing more than a few notes without tiring and she had had medical treatment. She wanted to become a professional singer..... She is now a recorded artist and is in her final year of training at University in performing arts to be a Pop industry professional singer. The power and beauty in her voice is now full of stamina again!
How did you first get into this line of work?
We've been enjoying singing since the age of 4. When have we ever not sung? Teaching is sharing - that's why our business is called The Music Tree. We share our wealth of musical experience and our pupils grow outwards and share theirs with others.
