Jack L.'s review on Dec 11, 2020

Worked with Brian to assist me in finding a career at a very difficult time in my life. Very pleased to say that I finished my sessions with him being much more confident in the kinds of things I want to do and how I go about achieving them. Highly recommend him for anyone who’s struggling to know where they are going in life or just want a change of career. Very thankful to have found him.

It is my pleasure working with Brian. He is very pleasant and funny person, and he has been very helpful and dedicated. I am absolutely impressed how accurate DISC profile is. It helped me gain understanding about myself and what type of job should I look for in order to feel fulfiled and live meaningful life.

Deepa G.'s review on Nov 06, 2020

Brian has been very professional, patient and responsive during my career coaching sessions and in between! I have felt very comfortable to speak openly about my concerns and discuss solutions and ways of moving forward. I started coaching sessions with Brian at a point after graduating when I felt lost and was having trouble moving forward with my career. Although I didn't know what to expect, Brian's step by step approach was very engaging and efficient in first recognising my values and my style of working through my DISC profile. It was a way of knowing my approach in life and how I can use it best. He has been very kind, empathetic and a great listener! I always looked forward to speaking with him with updates in my life and discussing the next step. After these coaching sessions I've had a shift in perspective and feel like I can use these tools as a means of moving forward. 100% would recommend!

Brian is a fantastic coach and motivator! Brian has very impressive work ethics and responsibilities towards his clients. He made our phone conversations very beneficial for me: he is an excellent listener, and it makes a huge difference. Brian gave me full support when I was asking a question not related to his coaching expertise; he stayed very professional and helpful. I felt connected with the right person who wants to make a difference in my career plans. I can assure you that Brain is not doing his job only for his satisfaction but his clients too. I hope to work with him again soon.

Benvon C.'s review on Aug 08, 2020

Having lost the job I loved as a result of Covid 19, I felt quite lost, confused and fearful about the future. Brian coached me during this period which was enormously beneficial. Having re-engaged with my values as part of the process, painting a picture of the what the future could look like and working through the barriers I was holding up like age and a perceived lack of professional skills, we put structure and focus into my plan. As a result, I felt more positive, in control and selective in my approach to finding a new job that is both purposeful and interesting. I've made good progress in these challenging times and in a large part this was down to meeting Brian regularly, which kept me on track. Brian has a kind and empathic approach, is a very good listener, asks thought provoking questions and is very easy to talk to. I would absolutely recommend Brian as a coach and thank him very much for his support at a difficult time.

Laura P.'s review on Jun 19, 2020

The support Brian has given me has been second to none. He challenged my ways of thinking, which encouraged me to approach my job search in a different way which has opened up new possibilities to me. I was particularly impressed with his practical approach to looking at my career (and my life in general to some extent) which involved completing various exercises around beliefs, values, and guiding principles. I found this really helpful as it helped to clarify the most important things to me in a new role and in a new organisation. I also liked the structured approach he took which included creating a plan of actions each week, and going forwards now that my sessions with him have come to an end. This has helped me to stay focussed on what I'm trying to achieve in the long term, by breaking overwhelming tasks down into smaller tasks and actions. I would highly recommend Brian to anyone wanting support with their career!

Helen V.'s review on Jun 29, 2020

Having reached a juncture in life where I didn't know where to go next (both professionally and personally) I started working with Brian and it has definitely been one of the best investments in me I have done. I chose Brian because out of the coaches I spoke with I thought he would challenge me more and ultimately this is what I needed; which he has done in a way that is self-reflective. We decided to focus on my career situation first and he has worked with me in such a way that has enabled me to start seeing my true value and how better to approach the job search and applications. Helping to motivate me when I'd much rather hide from the world or have lost my way with a set-piece of work. Brian's friendly and calm manner puts you at ease, enabling you to get the most out of a session; with a laugh or two too. Thank you, Brian :-)

It's been lovely to work with you on your journey Helen. It's also been great to connect with you at a professional level, including sharing reflections on the CIPD's Festival of Work and engaging with the HR community on LinkedIn. I look forward to celebrating your future successes with you.

Clare M.'s review on Apr 14, 2020

Brian is a great coach and working with him has helped me realise what is important for me, what I want to achieve and how to achieve it. He is professional but warm and friendly and I feel very happy to talk openly with Brian without feeling any judgement from him. He understands what kind of approach I need and gives me the space and time to think and talk whilst keeping me focussed and on track. He is geniunely delighted for me when I achieve even the smallest of things. I always feel that he has given great thought to our sessions and is skilled at asking me carefully-chosen questions with empathy, patience, insight and, very importantly, good humour. If this is what you're looking for in a coach I would recommend you get in touch with Brian!

Meet Brian

I’m Brian and I specialise in coaching people through making changes to their working lives that lead to a brighter future. Many people hit a stage in their life when they need something different. However, not everyone knows what that difference is! My approach to coaching is based on supporting you to make a successful transition from where you are to where you want to be. I do this by helping you to develop a vision for the future and a plan to get there. To do this I use a strengths-based approach to coaching, where I help you identify what motivates you, what type of work environment you favour, your communication patterns, and the beliefs you have that hold you back. I help you focus on your skills, your achievements and develop beliefs that will help you to overcome self-doubts. Triggering self-confidence is a key aspect of my approach. I have several tools that I can use to support you. They include a DISC profile, a simple to understand psychometric profile that helps you to develop a deeper understanding of your behavioural style. It will help you to become a better communicator, appreciate the differences in others, deal with conflict and understand how to influence others. I can support your coaching journey through the use of a tracking tool. It enables you to record your progress on-line, providing you with a record of your achievements and where you need to take action. It is a powerful way of keeping track of your coaching journey over time, leading to greater accountability and better outcomes. My coaching experience is backed by my professional experience of over 20 years of experience working in HR and training. I am a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). I can offer additional support where needed to help you look at career options, including signposting you to resources that will give your career a boost. To get the ball rolling and to see if I am the right coach for you, I offer a free introductory ‘discovery’ call. It will give you the experience of being coached by me. At the end of the session, you will have gained some insight into what you can do to move forward. If you decide that I’m the person to work with you on this journey, then I’d be delighted to work with you.

Questions & answers

What should customers know about your pricing? (E.g. estimates, discounts, fees, package pricing)
I usually price per session, which is normally anywhere up to an hour. The DISC profile is extra, but it is optional and not everyone wants to have one. It is entirely up to you! I ask customers to pay for each session in advance and there is no commitment to a minimum or maximum number of sessions.
What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
The initial 'chemistry' conversation with a new customer helps both of us to work out if the coaching relationship is right for them. I'm not the right coach for everyone and I wouldn't commit to coaching anyone if I didn't think that I was the right person to help them. What my customers tell me that they like best about working with me is that as well as challening them I make the coaching process fun!
What education or training is most relevant to your work?
I qualified in 2017 with a Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching from The Coaching Academy. Before becoming a coach I worked for many years in HR and training and am a Fellow of the CIPD. I am passionate about developing people and supporting them to reach their goals.
Do you have tips or advice for someone hiring a pro in your line of work?
Talk to a few coaches and decide who you think you would like to work with. Decide what you want from coaching, as the clearer you are at the start the more likely you are to achieve that goal.
What questions should customers have ready before speaking to pros about their project?
Ask about the coaches experience, their success stories and how they have helped others.
What are some good examples of past customers?
Although I work with people at all stages of their careers, my focus is on mid-career professionals and in particular those who are looking to change career direction. I have supported clients to explore options and take the first steps towards changing their careers. It is always good to hear from people who I have coached about their success stories. The annual plan that I help people develop takes time to come to fruition, but past clients are able to identify the impact coaching has had on their lives.
Describe a recent project that went well. Scope? How long did it take?
A recent success story is a customer who came to me with a clear goal but wasn't sure about how to reach it. Over the course of eight sessions, we identified those things holding her back, developed strategies for dealing with them and at the end of the coaching sessions, she had secured several job offers and had a much clearer career path.
How did you first get into this line of work?
I have over 25 years of experience working in the training industry, including working with some very experienced and inspiring trainers and coaches. After being made redundant and taking on a temporary job, I decided to train as a coach with a view to 'one day' setting up my own coaching practice. I qualified in 2017, but 'The Beeston Coach' had to wait for two years until the end of 2019, when I left the security of paid employment to focus on what I love doing. The experience I gained, and the challenges I have faced in doing this, has made me a better coach as I can relate to the emotional journey and challenges that my clients face when seeking a career that is right for them.
