About Free Your Voice

Many of us enjoy humming a few lines to, but to learn healthy technique and freedom in singing we need an experienced mentor's support. If you are on the lookout for such a coach, I am here to help. I have been working in the industry, singing and teaching singing, for over 10 years and am passionate about helping my students release their voice to sing in a healthy and freeing way. I teach individuals of all ages and experience with student focused lessons that work towards your goals; whether it is to build confidence, vocal health, get rid of tension, or an easy belt. By following my methods, my students have experienced noticeable changes in a short span of time. I believe every singer flourishes in an encouraging environment and work hard to create supportive rehearsal space where you can have fun whilst learning. I like to have a small, communicative session with my students before I begin to provide lessons. This helps me truly understand the individual requirements of each student and allows my clients to get to know me as a teacher. Please feel free to get in touch with me if you would like more information and if you would like to book a class, all you need is to bring yourself, and let's get stuck in!

Singing Lessons
Naomi P.'s review on Apr 05, 2021

As a singer who has been singing for 16 years I have always struggled to belt and when I tried to belt my vocal chords would suffer greatly. I have had a couple of Singing teachers throughout the years but none of them have been able to help me belt and told me that I was natural at the more soprano light sounding songs rather than the punchy belting songs until I met Lucy! Lucy is amazing and a Singing teacher genius! She teaches you the exact techniques and skills you need to get what you want out of your singing along with making sure that your vocal health is a top priority. Since working with Lucy I can now belt and sing without even straining my vocal chords. I never even thought that was possible but Lucy helped me achieve it! When I sing it feels like I have the belting power but with so much ease and it feels like I don't even touch my vocal chords whilst doing so. She made the impossible possible and I am not exaggerating. Lucy knows exactly what she is talking about and you can tell she is so passionate about singing, singing techniques and your vocal health. On top of that Lucy is such a lovely, supportive and kind person. I cannot recommend her enough!

Singing Lessons
Jett A.'s review on Mar 29, 2021

I started singing lessons with Lucy when i was 17 and the growth i saw in my voice even within less than a year was incredible. My range, technique and confidence have all vastly improved thanks to lucy and continue to do so. Every lesson with Lucy is fun while also managing to be extremely productive and she creates an incredibly welcoming environment where i’m able to feel comfortable despite usually being shy to sing in front of people. I would highly recommend receiving singing lessons from Lucy to anyone who is interested.

Questions & answers

What should customers know about your pricing? (E.g. estimates, discounts, fees, package pricing)
1 hour - £27 45 minutes - £20 30 minutes - £15
What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
It's so important to find the right fit when it comes to finding a vocal coach. For the first session, I like to introduce myself and my methods and find a bit more about you as a singer and what you want to get out of coaching. We’ll run through a warm up, vocal exercises and a song or two to give you a feel of how a full session would be run as a taster.
What education or training is most relevant to your work?
I have achieved an Associate Diploma in Singing for Musical Theatre with London College of Music and am currently enhancing my knowledge of vocal pedagogy with Elissa Weinzimmer. I am working towards my CPD credit in Education and Training and keep up to date with emerging vocal science and pedagogical practises.
Do you have tips or advice for someone hiring a pro in your line of work?
No one is the same and everyone learns differently. Creating an encouraging and supportive space for every individual is in my mind essential, but freeing tension, learning correct and healthy technique and ensuring students are enjoying singing practise is not one size fits all and shouldn’t be. Always look for a coach who works towards your needs, makes learning enjoyable and tailors the session to you.
What questions should customers have ready before speaking to pros about their project?
How do you run your sessions? What styles do you specialise in? What vocal practises/pedagogies do you most align with in your teaching? What is your experience with different age groups/experience levels/singing types? I want to improve in this, what would you recommend? Are there good vocal practises I can do on a day to day basis? What is your teaching style/philosophy? What is expected of the client during the sessions? What are your cancellation/rescheduling policies?
What are some good examples of past customers?
JA was struggling with range and wanted to increase to over 1hoctave. He had established his chest register but needed develop his head register. Once he had a healthy balance of both, we worked on his mix, then looked at his falsetto and strengthening the bridge between head register and falsetto. We have now eliminated strain and he is now successfully able to place his voice to span 3 octaves with a consistent, strong tone. Another client (RE) was always told she had a weak and limited head register and was taught to sing softly when reaching higher notes and to not go over an octave from her “break”. She was really disheartened when singing songs with higher notes and always wanted to belt. We first worked on achieving a greater range in a healthy way and showed her she had a much greater range than she had given herself credit for. We then worked strengthening the head register and creating balance between head and chest to help develop her mix. We worked on techniques such as twang and using her mix to create a belt sound without raising her chest register so she effectively adapts her tone to suit styles whether a belt sounding mix quality or a more classic tone is needed.
Describe a recent project that went well. Scope? How long did it take?
GC had been working on his repertoire for open mics and was struggling in self-esteem and matching pitch. After a matter of months, we have built a strong repertoire, confidence in performing and enjoying his set and GC is now more aware of pitch and singing within the correct key. He is now ready and raring to go for open mic nights and beyond and I couldn’t be more proud or excited for him!
How did you first get into this line of work?
I had always dreamed of becoming a vocal coach after seeing my own singing teachers work. After studying singing and finishing my degree in theatre, I continued performing in my spare time whilst following (in my mind) a more reliable career path. It was when I reached the pinnacle of my then goals, that I realised this path was perfect for someone else, but not for me. It was truly a coming full circle moment when I returned to my dream and my roots. I put everything into my work and helping students because it is someone I am truly passionate about and will always go the extra mile to get my pupils the results they are looking for and help them reach their true potential.
