You are about to take your first steps on a journey that will bring strength to your body and clarity to your mind. Let me start by saying "congratulations." Most people never even make it to this point. The fact that you are seeking expert advice to improve your physical self through hard work is a testament to your willingness to make yourself better rather than settling for buying larger clothes every year like most of the people. Soon, we will be testing your consistency and follow through. Remember, this journey has no final destination. We don't stop when we find a treasure chest at the end of a rainbow. Rather, every river crossed and every mountain conquered shall bring you a new reward, ones that can only be truly appreciated by those who've earned them. There are three treasures that you will find almost immediately, and that will grow in power every day you maintain this journey with me: resistance to illness sustained energy and a love of life that can only come from the natural rush of endorphins blasting your body with every beat of your pounding heart. Now, in order for us to share in a successful journey, let's get some things straight. First of all, I'm the expert -- not you. You don't tell your doctor what prescriptions to write. You don't tell your mechanic how to change your car's oil. You don't board a plane and tell the pilot how to fly. So, do not tell me how to train you. I've got it covered. Secondly, you must keep an open mind. I don't care what your high school football coach made you do in 1986. I don't care what your best friend's brother-in-law heard his wife's cousin say about the latest fitness fad. I don't care that some girl you met at a neighbor's party lost 30 pounds by eating nothing except chocolate once a day. I don't care what your old personal trainer made you do. Things are different now, based on what is reality and what's needed, and what will work for you. Your open-minded approach will nearly guarantee a successful journey for us! Speaking of doctors? I'm the anti-doctor. I'm going to keep you out of his office. Now, let's be honest. I can not promise you overnight success. I shall not promise a supermodel's body by popping a pill. I will not promise you an easy path to six-pack abs. If you are looking for short-term, injury-prone, metabolism wrecking, energy crashing methods, please look elsewhere. This journey is all about getting lean and fit and enjoying a very high quality of life, and this takes time and energy and effort. Yes, this will cost you money. Is it worth it? You be the judge: Is quality of life priceless? See, a true cynic knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing. Believe it or not, I'm going to have a positive impact on your budget! The treasures we find along the way will keep you out of the doctor's office, purchasing fewer prescription medications, missing fewer days of work and school, and protecting your wallet from £3 lattes, overpriced fast-food, and vending machine garbage. This journey will streamline your budget to avoid overpriced, under-effective, worthless diet pills, fitness gadgets, gym memberships you won't even use, and purchasing a £2,000 clothes hanger that you thought was going to be your treadmill. This part is important: I can not instantly restore order to a situation that took years to deteriorate. If you've been consuming poisons like sugar, fast food, preservatives, and white flour, this journey is going to be difficult at first. If you haven't been eating at least 10-15 servings a day, every day, of fresh fruits and vegetables, then it's going to take at least six-8 eight months of solid nutrition until you become healthy again. If the most exercise you've completed over the last two years is a walk up the stairs to go to bed at night, this journey is going to be challenging indeed. So, you have a choice to make. If you do not take this journey with me, you will continue along the path to a very poor quality of life and a very high probability of premature death --situations that God did not intend for you. If you do take this journey, you shall have a quality of life that will let you play a game of catch with your great-grandchildren. Am I being too bold for you? Too bad. I won't apologise for reality. You didn't complain when your math teacher told you one + one = two. You aren't surprised that the sky is blue. So, don't expect me to tip toe around some hard truths that you will have to swallow. We will get nowhere on this journey unless you are training consistently, eating well every day, and following my advice even when I'm not with you. I can make the hour you spend with me a perfect hour -- but what about the other 23 hours in the day? Are you willing to do what needs to be done to create a lifestyle change? See, I can only be the guide on this journey -- you must actually take each step! Oh, by the way, of course, you are going to be sore from lifting weights and stretching and moving your legs. Please be patient, as the only way to build up your body's strength, endurance and bone density is to break down muscle through challenging fitness routines. It's OK to trip and fall once in a while -- these are not failures to me. Failure comes from your inability to pick yourself up and keep moving forward. The only way you can let me down and disappoint me is if you quit altogether -- you must not give up. One of the best treasures you shall find will be your tendency to look and feel so much younger than your actual age. Another bonus will be your ability to inspire and motivate others to pursue their own path to fitness. If those you inspire are your children, even better. Maintaining fitness means that this is not a journey that you can ever complete: There's no stop, no finish, no end. For even when you've collected a trove of treasures, you will have to continue your journey in order to maintain your results. I'm your personal trainer, your fitness coach, your health counselor, your exercise teacher -- in actuality, I am your guide on this journey. If you follow me, if you trust in me, if you stay consistent and give me your personal best, then you shall reap the rewards of life.
