What can I teach you? -Composition (harmony, polyphony, conducting, analysis, orchestration, reduction) -Piano (Grades 1-8, Jazz, Pop) -Music Theory (GCSE, A-Level, Grades) -Music Production (Logic Pro, Ableton, Sibelius) -Music for film/ TV -Writing beats in any genre (trap, hip-hop, ambient, dance music) -Analog and digital synthesizers (Korg Minilogue, Korg Volka Bass, Volka beats) -Working with samples (field recordings) -DJing -Performing with electronics -Music production software; Ableton, Logic Pro, Audacity, Serato DJ, Sibelius -Songwriting (lyrics, chord progression, structure) -Advice on what direction you should take based on your interests (Institutions you may wish to study at, music you should listen to, goals you should set yourself) I am a composer/producer living in Birmingham who has just graduated a music composition degree at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I have received 5+ years of 1-2-1 tuition in composition and production by active musicians working in their field, throughout A-level music and my degree. My work has been played on Radio 3 Late Junction, Flatpack Film Festival, in New York, London, Birmingham. I have worked with Le Page Ensemble, Thallien Ensemble, BCMG, Birmingham School of Acting. Currently, I have been commissioned by the GAP Arts Project to create a sound installation in January. My work explores a variety of styles including; scores for large and small ensembles (orchestra, string quartet, recorder consort), electronic music (field recordings, synthesizers, samplers), songwriting. My teaching experience includes A-Level music technology students at Solihull Sixth form in achieving A or above for their work. Some of the styles they composed were film music, musique concrete, minimalism, EDM. I am currently working on a commission for the GAP working with young people to create a sound installation that reflects their work and the local environment. For this, I lead some workshops with a group of five 11-16 year olds. I have two younger sisters that I helped learn the piano and guitar. Composing with electronic music is what I am passionate about and would love to share my enthusiasm with aspiring composers/ songwriters/ performers, allowing them to reach their goals as a musician. All I really hope for from you is a willingness to learn, and we will have a lot of fun! :)

Roxanne K.'s review on Jan 18, 2019

Oliver is a very friendly and approachable teacher with a patient and effective teaching style. He has helped me develop my piano and theory skill greatly. He is always on time and careful to make sure that he is available if required. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a piano or music teacher.
