About Optimal Health Clinic

Manual therapy is a system of diagnosis and treatment focusing on the bodies’ musculoskeletal system. This includes connective tissues and joints, as well as associated muscular tissues such as fascia. Manual therapists consider how structural and mechanical changes to this system can impact other systems of the body and work to correct them by manipulation, keeping you heathy and active. Muscle tensions can be a manifestation of physical and emotional stress. This can occur through occupational strains such as, sitting at desk, driving long distances, lifting and carrying and repetitive motions. It can also be in response to the strains daily activities place on your body, such as being full time parent or taking part in local sporting events. This can have a significant impact throughout the body by restricting blood and lymph vessels, as well as nerve fibres. These restrictions can generate discomfort and postural changes as the body tries to compensate for these muscular restrictions, potentially restricting joint mobility and creating dysfunctions in other areas. Soft tissue therapies, such as massage, myofascial inhibition and post isometric relaxation (stretching) aim to correct these imbalances and improve overall function and mobility. This is achieved by relaxing hypertonic muscles and improving muscle elasticity. This allows for improvements in circulation, allowing for better nutrition and oxygen supply to the muscles. Joint mobilisation encourages the joint though a full range of motion. This stimulates the connective tissue to synthesise collagen and encourages synovial fluid in the joint to nourish surrounding cartilage. This improves joint function. The advanced techniques used to achieve this also create a neuromuscular relaxation response which releases tension and provides a general state of relaxation. Pain Reduction Improved Function Increased Joint Mobility Correction of Muscular Imbalances Relief from Stress and Tension Increased Circulation Quicker Healing from Injury Improved Mood/Emotional Well-Being Improved Posture Injury Prevention Bronfort G, Haas M, Evans R, Leininger B, Triano J. Being taller than average and growing quickly led to a range of postural problems. This led me to wanting to understand biomechanics and developed my interest in anatomy. Despite this I ultimately ended up pursuing a different career path. I had not thought about the possibility of pursuing a career in healthcare again until my wife developed pelvic girdle pain during pregnancy. After a combination of holistic therapies that restored her health, I felt that had to learn how I could work to help others. So, I began pursuing my passion and combining my interested in anatomy, exercise and nutrition. I began studying at the college of Osteopaths, where I gained a qualification in Soft tissue Manipulation. My studies have given me the ability to conduct biomechanical assessments, detailed palpatory evaluations and recognise anatomical and physiological basis for soft tissue treatment techniques. pursuing my passion and combining my interested in anatomy, exercise and nutrition.
