About On The Ropes - Online Trainer, CHEK Practitioner, S&C, Boxing Coach

I'm Wasim and started my training journey around years ago assisting boxing coaches and running a jump rope training company, teaching people to jump rope. I started training boxers when I got injured and this journey of discovering my injuries led me down the personal training route into sports therapy, corrective exercise, and strength & conditioning. Over the years, I have trained with and under the best coaches in their fields and have worked with many clients to help achieve their fitness, performance, sporting and lifestyle goals. Amassing a wide range of tools over the years, I have a 5 step process which I use with clients, dipping into my skillset should a certain area need attention. Alternatively, some people want to just learn to jump rope or box. In which case, I tailor accordingly. 1. Assess & test: Run through a series of assessments looking at lifestyle, nutrition, movement, posture, athletics and biomechanics 2. Program: Build a program based on your individual needs and goals and taking into account what we learned during the assessment. This includes both exercise selection and programming as well as nutritional and lifestyle recommendations 3. Train: We run training sessions based on the program, making sure everything is done correctly and there are no shortcuts. Teach you exercise technique and progress you accordingly. 4. Re-assess: Check how you've improved compared to your baseline tests. This is dictated by your goals and when they need to be achieved. We then schedule assessments around the schedule. It's a great motivation tool to ensure you're on track. 5. Progress: We then progress you based on where you are and turn your body into something you want and need for the long term. If you want specific work like biomechanics assessments or just learn a skill like a jump rope or boxing, I also provide this. My qualifications and certifications are Level 3 Personal Trainer, Level 3 Sports Massage, Level 4 Strength & Conditioning, Advanced Sport & Exercise, Nutritional Advisor, BioMechanics Trainer, CHEK Exercise Coach, CHEK Holistic Lifestyle Coach Level 1, CHEK Practitioner Level 1, and a certified Jump Rope coach. I look to get the most out of a session, not just for the client, but also on a personal level: I have targets with each session and I take full responsibility if they're not achieved. I put myself through the paces as a coach and I won't charge if I feel objectives haven't been achieved. So if you’re serious about getting fit and healthy, get in touch. I'm getting married in the summer and wanted a personal trainer to help me get into shape and feel good. Wasim was amazing and really helped me. He used a holistic approach to training first finding out about my lifestyle and diet and quickly identified ways to make changes to help myself here. Then he assessed me as i mentioned I hadn't been to the gym in years so he wanted to see what i was ready for so i wouldn't go in the deep end straight away. The programme made me feel really good and I progressed from week to week going from bodyweight to weights and for the first time, I could see my abs! You need to be on point with the nutrition also and this is highly emphasised and he doesn't guarantee anything if you're not paying attention to all areas. He knows his stuff.

I hired Wasim for a boxing session for a small group of my colleagues. I gave the brief that the purpose of the session was for fitness and a bit of fun, and informed him that everyone taking the class would be beginners. I unfortunately couldn't attend the class myself in the end, however the feedback I had from the group was that the session went above and beyond expectations, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Wasim was also very easy to communicate with on Bidvine, and was very helpful in looking for a studio to hire for the session, that was close to our office. I would definitely hire Wasim and would highly recommend for anyone looking for a boxing coach for a session of this nature. Many thanks Wasim! :-)

Great training with Wasim. Needed help with a few things and was recommended his services by a friend. Wanted to learn how to box as I'm considering doing a white collar fight. Also needed to drop a ton of weight and move a lot better. Wasim used an approach I've not seen with other trainers. He first put me through a physical assessment to test where I was and then measured these regularly to check improvements. The boxing training was brilliant and I learned so much and I was taken to a real club where I got used to the ring and put through some old-school training. I was more impressed with how much I learned than how much weight I lost, but so far is 8 kilos and counting. He puts an emphasis on jumping rope and he doesn't mess about here. It's astounding how far I've along with that.

How did you first get into this line of work?
Through injury and following incorrect training practices. I went from teaching people how to jump rope in the gym and immersed myself in this. When I got injured boxing, I then started my journey into boxing coaching. Training people who were not boxers, I realised they couldn't always train like boxers do and things needed to change. I immersed myself in education, learning how to to adapt training, learn anatomy, injuries and understand working with different populations. I became a qualified strength and conditioning coach, personal trainer, CHEK Pracitioner, BioMechanics Coach and Sports Massage Therapist over the next 6 years to sharpen my skillset. Working in the corporate sector, I then gave this up to focus on training full time.
