Singing Lessons
Tom G.'s review on Sep 23, 2020

I would of ticked all options! Laura is an absolute gem, she is incredible! Laura helps you get comfortable and will prompt you to open doors with your voice that you struggled to get to grips with... she's like a ferry lady for your voice! Laura is REALLY easy to get along with, she is very knowladgable and she makes you feel at home.. I've learned more from my time with her than I did in a music course in college! If you want a diverse personality packed with versatile knowledge! Laura is a top shout. Do not be shy, she is lovely!

Spanish Lessons
Jayne T.'s review on Sep 13, 2020

Laura is extremely encouraging and very precise, should you wish to learn either Spanish or singing she will teach you in the correct way. The kind of teacher you want to put the work in for. I am learning to sing my original songs in Spanish and she has adapted her teaching style and lessons to suit my expectations.

Laura was really professional and her lessons were not like any other singing lessons I had had before! They were really fun and you could see improvement after every session. I would really recommend her if you have some experience but feel a bit stuck.

Spanish Lessons
Carys M.'s review on Jul 06, 2020

I’ve had lots of language teachers throughout the years and Laura BY FAR has been my favourite & best one. She’s a very kind, friendly & approachable person & her lessons fly by because they’re such high quality but also so much fun. She tailors lessons to your needs & ability and I’ve picked up a language from scratch, at a great pace in the past few months with her!

She is so patient and I’ve learnt so much in a short amount of time. Lessons are always fun and very well structured. She creates a safe space where you feel comfortable asking questions and if you don’t understand something she will help you until you do ! Couldn’t recommend her enough !!!

Singing Lessons
Finula c.'s review on Jul 01, 2020

Laura will go on training courses at her own cost to train me Better. How dedicated is that! And I’m a complete beginner so we are focussing on getting technique Right and she makes it great fun with the variety of excel uses to do so. She is always encouraging even when the sound is laughable and I really look forward to each lesson. When I started I was so tense no noise would come out. We only had 2 live lessons before lockdown but she was there straight away on FaceTime which works really well So not only has she made great strides in improving my singing, she has given me a continuing source of joy and fun through difficult times What a professional! And what a human being ! Thank you Laura

Laura does a great job at teaching good technique while making the sessions fun. I had never done any singing before and I have improved very quickly. Laura asks students what they would like to achieve and she is very good at guiding them to attain their goal!

Meet Laura

Hi! I'm Laura and I'm a Spanish actor/singer/musician based in North London. I recently graduated from The MTA (London) with a Diploma in Musical Theatre. I previously also graduated with a Degree in Acting (Musical Theatre) from the ESAD of Murcia (Spain). I've been teaching Singing, Acting, Clarinet, Musical Theatre (and Spanish!) for over 3 years now both in groups and one-to-one lessons. I've had students of every level and age, from 4-year-olds to 50+ years old, from absolute beginners to professionals. I love sharing my passion for everything voice-related. I've trained in Estill Voice Training as well as other vocal techniques with professionals like Robert Sussuma and Javi Prieto. I am always researching and learning new exercises and approaches to voice work so I can help my students better. I also enjoy teaching acting and acting-through-song massively. I've recently started teaching 1-2-1 lessons in preparation for LAMDA exams and I find guiding my students through pieces, characters and songs really exciting. I trained in Music and Clarinet performance for over 11 years and have been teaching it for more than 2 years now. I always try to work on technique in combination with fun songs and exercises so the student keeps motivated throughout the learning process. I really enjoy sharing my passion for playing an instrument, since it's been such an important part of my life since I was little. We all learn differently, so finding the way to help each individual is my favourite part of the job. I absolutely love when my students reach their goals or discover new aspects of their voices and characters. That "click" moment is priceless.

Questions & answers

What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
We discuss the student's goals and previous experience to plan our lessons according to what they want to achieve and what they already know.
What education or training is most relevant to your work?
- Degree in Acting (Musical Theatre) from ESAD of Murcia (Spain) - Diploma in Musical Theatre from The MTA (London) - Voice training with professionals like Robert Sussuma, Javi Prieto and Alizia Romero.
Do you have tips or advice for someone hiring a pro in your line of work?
I recommend finding teachers that keep learning and are willing to adapt their classes to the individual. I don't think there's just one way of teaching, since we all learn differently. I also value a teacher's commitment and professionalism correctly balanced with getting to know the individual and supporting them through the learning process. Acting and singing can be very personal so the teacher guiding you has to have that in mind.
What questions should customers have ready before speaking to pros about their project?
Asking if they can help you reach your goals and if they have previous experience in that specific field/style/subject is the most important thing. It's always good to ask your singing teachers if they keep updating their training and have knowledge about anatomy and the science involved in the vocal process. I personally believe old-school singing teaching can sometimes be a little bit "one-size-fits-all" and it doesn't work for everyone. You can ask your acting teacher what methods or theories they follow, and you can ask for acting book recommendations. You can ask your Spanish teacher what do they like to focus on the most or how do they keep their lessons dynamic and fun.
What are some good examples of past customers?
I currently teach Musical Theatre and Drama to groups of 5-7 year-olds with companies like Stagecoach and Lemon Jelly. I currently have over 25 one-to-one online students learning Singing, Clarinet, LAMDA and Spanish with me and they can all see their weekly improvement. I've had singing students wanting to learn the skill just for fun, to get ready for an open mic and to get ready for a specific audition. I've had clarinet students that were an absolute beginner and needed help choosing their first instrument and picking up the clarinet again after a couple years of not playing at all. I've had Spanish students that wanted to build up their conversational skills from a beginners level and students that wanted to get better grades in their GCSEs (and they achieved it).
Describe a recent project that went well. Scope? How long did it take?
I had a student who wanted to build up her confidence in Spanish for her GCSEs. When we started our 1-2-1 lessons she was really insecure about her speaking and her vocabulary and was failing her mock-exams. She ended up much more confident and with a B in her GCSE Spanish!
How did you first get into this line of work?
I started teaching Theatre in English in an English Academy back in Murcia (Spain). I had groups ranging from 4-years-old to 17-years-old. I did a 6 months internship with them as a teacher assistant, teacher and developing teaching resources for their company. They then hired me to teach a Musical Theatre in English Summer Course with teenager groups, which was a total success. They offered me a contract for the next academic year but I had to move to London to carry on my training in Musical Theatre so I had to leave the company. While I was continuing my training I started teaching Spanish, Clarinet and Singing private lessons and I loved the experience so when I graduated last September I started to build up my teaching business a bit more. I have always enjoyed learning, and I find that teaching is the ultimate learning experience! It helps me to keep my training up to date and stay actively researching so I can help others (and myself) develop the best version of themselves.
