Questions & answers

What should customers know about your pricing? (E.g. estimates, discounts, fees, package pricing)
The first lesson with me is always free so you can have a go and I can get to know you with no obligation. After that, I charge an hourly rate of £35 p/h or I do a 20% off discounts for purchasing 5 lessons upfront. Contact me directly to discuss this in more detail.
What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
It's great to start with an informal chat - get to know you, what you're interests are, what your goals are for working with me etc. I need to know how long you would like your lessons to be, when you want them to happen and how regularly (e.g. weekly, fortnightly etc.) then I will work with you to ascertain what your starting level is and we go from there.
What education or training is most relevant to your work?
I studied music at the University of Bristol and graduated with a 2:1 in 2017. Since then I've dedicated myself to learning how to be an educator and help people with their voices.
Do you have tips or advice for someone hiring a pro in your line of work?
It's OK if you don't click with the first one you try - if their teaching style is not for you, that's OK and they won't be offended if you decide not to continue with them and try someone else. What I would definitely recommend is giving it a go in the first place as you might be pleasantly surprised; that's why my first lesson is always free.
What are some good examples of past customers?
I love it when you start to see a client gaining confidence in themselves - one of my clients started off with no confidence in herself saying she had no vocal range, she was very low voiced and this extremely limited the repertoire she felt she could do. We are now, only 5 lessons later, exploring repertoire she couldn't dream of, solidly hitting notes she never thought possible for her and she is excited for her lessons every week. I couldn't be prouder of her and the progress she has made and that's why I do what I do.
How did you first get into this line of work?
Following my barbershop quartet becoming national champions in 2018, we were being asked more frequently to coach other quartets in their journey so that started my love for coaching. I then started training to become a singing judge and was coaching quartets and individuals on my own and found it such a rewarding and joyful thing to do. Since being made redundant from my office job just before the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, I decided to take the plunge and follow this passion full time, initially conducting all my lessons over web-cam. I look forward to being able to coach in person again with my new studio opening up in June 2021.
