While creating a film or short movie involves phenomenal technical expertise, there is also a high level of artistry to produce a video that delights as much as it informs. It was this level of creativity that goes into every aspect of filmmaking that reeled me (no pun intended!) into a career behind the camera. Hello – my name is Jack Burney, and I am a freelance film and video editor that thrives on the challenge of making exciting videos that resonate and tell a story. I have edited 19 short films, many of which were selected and also won awards at national and international film festivals. While I like experimenting with techniques, my approach tends to be classical, and I like the cinematic treatment that is bold and edgy but never over the top. Having studied film at college, I got more acquainted with the craft when I studied Experimental Film Production at Staffordshire University, and I graduated with a first-class degree. I am flexible to adapt to any brief and welcome projects that get me out of my comfort zone while also pushing the boundaries of what people expect. I am also highly experienced in corporate video editing, and I know how to edit content to be optimised for social media, online distribution and marketing for commercial brands as well as for individuals. I have a simple, no-nonsense approach to video editing that is honest and clear as well as exciting. Though based in Chelmsford, Essex, I am used to working remotely without compromising on quality. I have my own iMac Home Studio with editing software installed and ready to take on projects.
