Career Coaching
David W.'s review on Nov 30, 2020

Excellent coach, easy to work with very professional. It goes to show you don't need specific industry experience to be a great coach. It's about the skill and experience of the coach. If you want to change the way your career is going, develop your people skills look no further than Ian. He should write a book so refreshingly different and human with his approach.

James H.'s review on Nov 15, 2020

Fantastic to work with Ian, easy to talk with and share my concerns and ambitions for me and my career. We quickly got into it and designed tools that will help me drive my career but also balance with my life. To sum Ian up is hard, he was sometimes direct but compassionate sometimes inspiring and realistic I found new levels of motivation and belief. I would recommend Ian without any hesitation. I will come back to him I suspect for many years to come, I trust him that much.

Thank you James, I know you found it challenging and I know you recognised it needed to be but you did it. Look where you are now heading.

I contacted Ian through The Coffee Club Consultancy with the intention to engage in some leadership development coaching. It was a game changing experience, I learnt about myself and it was this awareness that has enabled me to take huge strides forward in my career. As a senior manager I had for a long time looked to take the step up to C level, never quiet happening. Frustrated I sort out a career coach. I went through a few before coming across Ian. Challenging, direct and compassionate with an insight that just simplified all the BS we get too use too. 5 sessions it took and I'm refocused and energised. Thank you Ian

Jim, it was great working with you. I'm embarrassed by your testimonial and of course grateful. Keep following the strategy, and I look forward to catching up with you in December.

I am only able to select three under the section “What did you like about working with Ian Wilson.” If it was possible I would have selected all six options. As well as professionalism, responsiveness and punctuality and would have selected value, communication and work quality. An excellent coach who I am happy to have as a contact for me if any other challenging times in my career arrive. I’m thankful to be the first to hire Ian Wilson as I am sure that large Queues for his services will be the norm.

Ian is a pleasure to work with, he is truly professional and has so much empathy in helping you find the right career and making sure you get the best chance at achieving success. Ians CV and coaching helped me achieve the job I would have only dreamed about, and I smashed the interview thanks to Ian.

Graeme D.'s review on May 05, 2020

I was stuck at a career plateau - between gigs and questioning my ability. Ian Wilson of the Coffee Club Consultancy was an incredible help, stripping back my CV and my public offering to really understand what I was good at, what I enjoyed doing and what I wanted to achieve from my next career move. Ian showed remarkable insight, helping to build me up and quash the self-doubt, and skillfully but sensitively providing me with the kick up the butt when I needed it! He provided help in developing leads, and when the interviews came, in doing the necessary preparation and research. His interview coaching was excellent. I had a very positive experience working with Ian and have no hesitation in recommending him and the Coffee Club Consultancy.

Harry S.'s review on May 05, 2020

I hired Ian as I was stuck both professionally and in my personal life. I was a senior manager in a large finance business but I had lost my motivations. Ian listened and we developed a strong picture of what I really wanted to do. He then created a CV and online profile that started my transition into my new career, I now work with in the voluntary sector, less money considerably happier. My marriage was saved. Thank you IAN

Meet Ian

Hi, Welcome, how you doing? I'm Ian. I am a transformation coach with over 15 years and counting experience in coaching. I started this business as my full-time career in 2008. In September 2020 I changed the name from The Coffee Club Consultancy.. I joined the Bidvine platform in May 20, let’s face it if you type coaching into Google your not going to get me as hit No1. I have helped transform and develop nearly 2,000 clients; create their personal and professional success stories. It is my passion, and this is something that my clients benefit from, passion, energy and a full focus on their objective. My coaching is transformational, results proven. Always aligned with specific goals and tailored to the individual's needs. My primary skill is in career management, leadership development, and our private world (often referred to life coaching) Everyone is unique with unique requirements, so there is no typical client. The common theme is they have reached a point of frustration, ambition or uncertainty that they want to change for the better. Some of the areas I focus on: ✔ Peak performance - maximising your potential ✔ Goal setting, creating a sense of purpose. ✔ Productivity - taking action - simple, effective organisation and time management. ✔ Gaining clarity ✔ Overcoming procrastination ✔ Work-life balance ✔ Career management ✔ Developing positive, long-lasting habits ✔ Motivations ✔ Improving and maintaining energy levels ✔ Personal and professional development ✔ Health - wellbeing - fitness ✔ Leadership ✔ Social/ communication skills ✔ Assertiveness, influencing ✔ Interview techniques ✔ Body language/ voice tonality ✔ Public speaking and presenting ideas and opinions ✔ Your personal brand ✔ Confidence and self-belief I bring an authentic, compassionate and creative approach to tackle all types of professional and personal dynamics. My coaching has helped people overcome negative experiences, convert underperformance into performance excellence, develop outstanding performers to new levels of performance and fulfilment. I passionately believe that coaching is about providing what the client wants and needs. This single focus means establishing trust and a commitment that is a commitment at every session. I love helping create success stories, and I will ensure that I do all that is possible to help you achieve your goals, I do this by being present in your life, 24/7, 365 days if that is what it takes. For a one-off intervention session, it is £120.00. The session length will be for one and a half - two hours with the possibility of additional actions for you. These sessions are suitable for a review or a one-off event such as an interview, presentation, appraisals, stressful situations. My standard program and the most popular is three sessions. The cost works out to £75.00 per session (one to one and a half hour per session) £225.00. Within these sessions, we will work towards the transformation you require, whether is in your private world, career management or leadership. You will likely have some actions from each session. In addition to our sessions, I am available to talk on the phone during our time together. After each session, I provide you with session notes and actions. The career management program is designed for those who are looking for promotion, escalate their career or are not working and need to get back to work. The cost is £650.00. The 12-week/session program is designed to address a range of development and transformational needs (see my business information on Bidvine). The cost is £1130.00. Payment options are available for all programs.
What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
First and foremost am I right for you, it is about the chemistry. We do this by having a discovery call for about 15 to 20 minutes. We will detail what you are looking for. From this call, I will tailor a coaching plan for you, which we will work through. To help you understand what to expect from me the following might be useful. Coaching is part consultant part therapy part, teacher. The key focus is it is about your transformation. I have a coaching methodology which ensures we get the results desired but allows for the uniqueness of you and all my clients to flex in achieving this. I am a skilled listener and I inspire thinking with my clients through storytelling, metaphors, case studies and questions. My communications skills are refined so I pay close attention to what and how you say things and I communicate with you with respect and empathy. I am focused on results, lasting transformation, mindset and behaviours. I will help you create a system that supports this. Our sessions are likely to be online and normally last from one to one and a half hours, There is often some action for you to do prior to the next session. My style is clear and friendly.
What education or training is most relevant to your work?
I have been coaching for 12 years and counting, working with over 2,000 clients all unique with unique requirements. As active learner and professional, I can continue to evolve and develop my skills. My qualifications most relevant to coaching are ✔ PTTLS - Level 4 ✔ NLP Master practitioner ✔ Certificate in Human psychology – occupational effectiveness - Level 5 ✔ Certified life and career coach ✔ Certificate in Performance Psychology ✔ Currently in year 4 of an MSc in Performance Psychology with Columbia University
Do you have tips or advice for someone hiring a pro in your line of work?
I offer a discovery call of 15-20 minutes as it is important you feel the coach is right for you, do they understand what you are looking for, is there chemistry. Spend time talking with your prospective coach, ask lots of questions, and be open to questions from them. If you are comfortable and slightly challenged, then great
What questions should customers have ready before speaking to pros about their project?
Why this, whatever this maybe is important to you, can you commit to transformation. Be open, it's OK not to clearly define what this is, I will help you define and get motivated by this
What are some good examples of past customers?
The people I work with have a broad range of needs/outcomes that we have worked through in our coaching sessions. Typical client requirements are Transform an aspect of their life, mindset, behaviours, relationships, wellbeing, motivations and personal development, career management, development of leadership skills and professional development. We work with a focus on the priority (the reason why you sort coaching) I ask questions and listen, I pay close attention to what is said and why I will challenge you. The results are a transformation; it is common for a client to feel energised and motivated to continue to work on their outcome. The number one area clients work with me on is career management, normally they are not working, redundancy or they are unhappy with the job they do and want to change direction.
Describe a recent project that went well. Scope? How long did it take?
A piece of work I am very proud of is enabling an ex-armed forces person to start their own business from home. Being physically disabled, their options for employment were limited; their ambition was not. We spent time looking and working through the transferable skills learnt in the army and his network of friends and contacts as well as developing new ones. We created a business plan and looked at sourcing product and fulfilment. We found a financial advisor and organised additional funding to enable the business to grow in line with anticipated product demand. The marketing strategy had a firm focus on using social media and networking with contacts, cost-effective and easy to manage from a laptop. Throughout the start-up process, we met weekly and talked nearly every day. Almost four months on the client had revenue coming in and can draw a salary. We still speak every couple of weeks we discuss sales and his developing business. It is always emotional for me, and I am so proud of this piece of work.
How did you first get into this line of work?
2008, a terrible year, the financial crisis was upon us, many people lost their jobs. As a manager, I had been coaching and training my teams for nearly four years when the crisis arrived at my desk and I was made redundant. By September of that year, I had not been able to secure another position but I had spent a lot of time counselling ex-colleagues, friends, the family who also had been impacted. I was running a training program for ex-servicemen and woman in Costa Coffee, High Wycombe. Inspired by the experience I took the plunge and became a full-time coach and Learning and Development, consultant. I now focus on coaching clients specifically with career, leadership and an aspect of their private world they want to transform, I love it.
