About Harriet Blackmore

I am Harriet, I teach Hatha Yoga incorporating flow and restorative elements. Hatha means the yoga of balance - ‘ha’ means sun and ‘tha’ means moon and it is the physical practice we do to calm our mind and body and help to prepare ourselves for practices like meditation. Flow means we will move through standing postures rather than staying in stillness. I aim to teach in a way that is welcoming and friendly and work with adults of all levels; including those with limited mobility, complete beginners, those who don’t feel comfortable in a full yoga class. I try to create a calm comfortable atmosphere in my classes, trying to create a space for people to learn, relax and also have fun. In my own experience, yoga has helped me to develop a better awareness of my body and listening to what I need - and the lessons I teach have many options and variations - any one in the class can do as much or as little as they feel they want to - it is completely guided by you and what feels right for you. Sometimes yoga classes can seem intimidating and make people feel like they need to be flexible or sporty, or know what they’re doing. Understanding that we all have very different experiences is key, and I aim to help people develop their own practice and what works for them. In my lessons, I combine physical practice with meditation, breathing practice - ‘pranayama’ and some of the philosophical teachings of yoga. Yoga is often seen as just a physical practice, but it is just as much about breath. Breathing practice helps to reduce stress and tension, and is something we can learn to take into our day to day lives. I feel really strongly about making yoga more accessible, and helping people to find their own practice and what is comfortable for them. I started practicing yoga as a way of working through difficult things in my own life, and found breathing techniques and relaxation really helpful tools that I could use everyday. What brought me back to yoga was the space and distance it gave me from worries and anxieties and helped me to feel a lot more calm about managing them. Yoga helped me to commit to trying to look after my physical and emotional health. This is why I learned to teach, so that I could share this and hopefully help other people to access yoga as a tool of support in their own lives. Through regular yoga practice, it’s possible to: - increase flexibility - increase muscle strength - improve your posture - alleviate some of the symptoms of anxiety and depression - release endorphins that improve your mood - and much more... I teach private and small group sessions, these are run at your home/place of work, or a space that you use for a small group. I currently don't teach from a permanent base. Harriet has a very caring and easy going nature, she is always approachable and supportive. She has great knowledge and understanding of yoga philosophy which she makes relatable to modern day life. In her yoga sessions she gives clear and concise guidance as well as practical assistance. Harriet creates a positive atmosphere and a supportive environment encouraging individuals to develop their own practice at all levels and abilities. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Harriet and love attending her classes.

Harriet was a supportive and attentive teacher during our yoga session. She really took the time to make me feel comfortable and teach me about the aspects of yoga that I hadn't known before. She has a deep understanding of yoga and the body which makes her sessions really enjoyable. I left the session feeling much calmer!
