What should customers know about your pricing? (E.g. estimates, discounts, fees, package pricing)
I'm just starting out and I have no portfolio to advertise from. I think my work is worth around £10 per hour at this stage in my new career.
So, send me a couple of photos or a short piece of video. I'll show you what my quality of work is. You tell me if my work is right for you and we can go from there. Right now I'm on furlough, so I can work for you at any time. Once I'm back at my job then I will be available evenings and weekends.
What education or training is most relevant to your work?
I am entirely self-taught. I wish I could have gone to Art College and studied photography / videography but I left school aged 15 and never went back. However, I have become quite skilled at shooting Dance Classes and Dance Shows; capturing complicated movements in poor lighting without intruding into the Class.
Do you have tips or advice for someone hiring a pro in your line of work?
I'm not a pro. I'm just an amateur trying to make some pennies on the side.
What questions should customer have ready before speaking to pros about their project?
What are you sending. Old photos that will need to be scanned? New photos or video straight from a camera's memory card? Old video on a VHS tape? The 'pro' will have to have the right equipment to import the data.
What do you want in return. A one-off photo album? A digital album stored on a stick, DVD, CD? Repair and recolour old photos? Capture the people's faces and the special moments from a wedding video?
Then be patient and allow time to pass. It takes time to view the whole of the video several times to get the feel of the whole thing and to identify those faces and moments that can be brought out and highlighted. The actual time to do the edit and save it in the format that's right for you is really quite quick after that.
Describe a recent project that went well. Scope? How long did it take?
My partner's last Summer School. Almost 5000 photos and videos at the end of a very hard working week. Having only evenings and weekends I completed the editing and uploading to website in four months. My partner had approval and veto over all the work and the result was 400 images and 50 videos.
