With a current job in communications research for a blue chip, trans-national organisation based in London, I practice cutting-edge methodologies in a fast-changing challenging environment. With rich experience of researcher and reporter roles for household names (BBC, FIFA, ITV, Aljazeera, TalkSport, Computer Weekly and Vice) I have worked as a digital news desk professional. I am accustomed to using multiple types of media in generating PR activity and communication campaigns as part of frontline support. These roles required the ability to handle high profile and sensitive issues. I’m driven by finding more effective ways to reach and influence target groups. BBCs positioning statements (strategy, vision and mission together with actions) give good understanding of role context. I place emphasis on understanding the complexity of the issues before taking any actions, being well aware of the damage that can be created from lack of understanding. I have first-hand experience of working with the BBC in mainstream (broadcast) media projects. Presently, I apply longitudinal trends and sentiment analysis technologies as sources of insight and useable for segmenting and targeting audiences. Such insights are discussed with senior management to guide communications activity. SMART objectives play a role in MarCom measurement / evaluation plans aligned to business goals e.g. for specified behaviour modification with reduction of adverse outcomes. KPIs are also developed to guide progress towards specific benchmarks (e.g. media hits). Metrics tracking based on statistical (or preferably mobile digital) returns of accident reports can segment different end-user outcomes. Analysis of incoming data can give evidence for business benefit. I know attention-commanding visual content (especially digital mobile) has a much greater part to play. 360 panoramas, memes, gifs, virtual reality and augmented reality (using immersive technologies) are all potentially engaging for hard-to-reach audiences. I take an interest in the news agenda (through digital channels). I fulfil tasks like copywriting routinely done similar work as a journalist on social media channels. My research skills are applicable to managing individuals from external professional bodies, business groups and campaigning organisations. SWOT analyses can highlight which relationships with the right partners and colleagues are needed to be effective. (I’m told that) a strength is being a sympathetic communicator. My job already takes place under pressure of deadlines with a portfolio of priorities to satisfy. I do not have direct ministerial-level influencing experience but have confidently met and successfully influenced senior leaders in a number of industries. Complex problem-solving has been a hallmark for my mainstream TV work.
