About Frinin and Bok

I founded a video production business with my school friend in 2018. Having had plenty of experience before, we decided it was time to take video production seriously and over the course of two years we have worked on a range of projects including independent short films, documentaries, experimental video art projects, music videos and corporate films. We always aimed to make our films stand out by being inventive, creative and unashamedly weird! We are a two-man team but can take on every part of video production, tackling any challenge that comes our way. Being a part of low-to-medium budget projects has made me very flexible, able to adapt to new environments quickly and think outside the box when tasked with a tight budget or a difficult situation. I have extensive experience working on set as a camera operator, sound recordist, producer and director. Off set, I am highly experienced in video editing and post-production. I own all of the equipment that I use including a range of lenses, a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, sound equipment, lights, etc.

What should customers know about your pricing? (E.g. estimates, discounts, fees, package pricing)

Prices are decided on a case-by-case basis, based on the hours needed to complete each project. I am happy adjusting the price in the process of working with new clients. I can also discuss set costs or package pricing if applicable. The price typically includes reviewing the footage, editing and adding titles/graphics. Throughout the process, I am always happy to adjust my output if requested and work on the additional comments provided by a customer.

What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?

I discuss the project and its goals first to determine how I approach the edit/filming. This could be online or over the phone. This may include conversations about the creative arc of the piece, if applicable. From this, I can estimate a rough delivery date for the client. After I make a start, I may contact the client for additional information/media material in order to complete a project to the highest standards and to a client's liking.

What education or training is most relevant to your work?

I have completed a BA and MA in Film and Screen Studies and an MA in Business Management. I have also undertaken a wide range of filmmaking-relevant short courses and masterclasses. Other than that, I have many years of experience working on and off-set in film and video, building a strong arsenal of skills.

Do you have tips or advice for someone hiring a pro in your line of work?

Communication is key. It is important to be in regular contact with the editor to get the best out of your footage and create an engaging video that people will watch again and again. Also, come in with a clear goal for what you want to achieve with the project and the audience you hope to attract. If you have a clear vision for the piece, it gives the editor something concrete to aim for and makes it much easier to create impactful content that you will be proud of.

What questions should customers have ready before speaking to pros about their project?

Before contacting us, a customer should ask themselves: - What do I want to achieve with this project? - Who am I making it for? Who is the audience? - Where do I want it to be released? On what platforms? - What do I want it to look like? Do I have examples? - How do I covey this to the professional in a clear, concise manner? - What is the limit of my own knowledge? At what point do I hand over trust to the professional?

What are some good examples of past customers?

I have worked closely with a variety of clients including City, University of London, Cass Business School and companies including Fiverr, Mind, Greensolver, Urban Health, Midland, MDI Connect, Aspect Ltd and Lydia McCarthy-Keen to name a few.

Describe a recent project that went well. Scope? How long did it take?

One of the recent projects I have worked on is a set of video adverts for a walkie-talkie distributor called MDI. During the lockdown, I faced a new challenge - how to promote a product without the use of specially constructed sets, actors and additional resources that were available before lockdown started. I decided to utilise a green screen and the video equipment at my disposal to create a set of unique, comedic adverts, which put forward the key qualities of the product in an entertaining, eye-catching way. Due to scarce resources, the idea had to be executed with extra care and attention to detail, but the results were great. I am very satisfied with the finished adverts, considering that I had to learn new filming and editing tricks along the way and work with a limited budget. The client was very impressed with the results.

How did you first get into this line of work?

I have been gradually building my skills and interest in video production ever since school. Eventually, I realised that filmmaking and editing is my passion. Having worked on independent short films and passion projects, I have learned how to be efficient and cost-effective while also maintaining high quality when approaching a project of any scope and scale.
