About Emma TS Robinson Photography

Do you need amazing shots of your products that you will be proud to share on social media? And confident to send to journalists and magazine editors? If so, then please read on! When it comes to shooting objects, it’s all about looking good for the camera. As a professional still life and product photographer, I know what works and I use my experience and creativity to make your products look great. I specialise in lifestyle product photography, which means photographing products in a lifestyle setting, either on location or created in the studio. Based in North London, I’ve amassed over eight years of experience working on various exciting projects with small businesses, designer makers, and creatives. I seek to highlight the best aspects of what I shoot while staying true to the brand guidelines and the overall tone of a campaign. Whether it’s moody, minimalist or vibrant, I put in a great deal of thought into styling each shot so that it captures the imagination of your potential customers. As an ex-designer, I understand the process of design and often collaborate with clients on art direction and brainstorm ideas for the photoshoot. The best product photographs frame the right mood to resonate with your audience while also telling a beautiful story of your brand. While I usually work in my London studio, I can also set up on location when needed. I’m easy-going, flexible about the scope of work and do my best to respect all timelines. Every shoot is a collaboration, and I never shy of going the extra mile to make every shoot successful. I don't settle for second best so I won't rush the process. I will work until I'm confident that I've got each shot before moving on to the next. The way I work is ideal for this, as I shoot whilst tethered to a laptop, that way I can see the shots on a proper screen and check them as I go along. If I'm working for you remotely (ie you're not with me in the studio) then I can send you photos by email or Wetransfer during the shoot. If you would like to collaborate with a talented photographer that uses styling, lighting and photography skills to shine the spotlight on your products, please get in touch. I welcome the opportunity of working together and look forward to discovering more about your project.

Shiri A.'s review on Mar 10, 2020

"I can absolutely recommend Emma Robinson for product photography. I have followed Emma's work for a while before asking her to take photos of my product (a set of flash cards called Eco Warriors). For many months before the photoshoot I was captivated by her beautiful photos, which seems to breath life into everything she shoots. The experience was lovely, we managed to do so much in the time together and the photos came out stunning. They have been used by journalists too not only in the web but also on print. I was able to repurpose the photos and do various things with them as they were of such high quality. Shiri Atsmon, Helpful Kids

Questions & answers

What should customers know about your pricing? (E.g. estimates, discounts, fees, package pricing)
I take care to find out as much as I can about what you need, so that I can prepare an accurate price (not a rough estimate).
What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
The first stage is to establish a brief for your project which will include the number of photos and a shot list plus some examples of the kind of photos you are looking for. Once the brief is established (I will help you do that), I will prepare a quote to include the relevant services that you require. My quotes are based on a the time needed for art direction, shoot preparation, the photo shoot and post production, including retouching if required.
What education or training is most relevant to your work?
I studied photography at the University of Westminster, where I graduated with a Masters in Photographic Studies in 2012.
Do you have tips or advice for someone hiring a pro in your line of work?
Have a really good look at their portfolio and ask yourself if they are really the specialist that you need. Photographing products is a unique skill that requires really high attention to detail and skills in lighting and composition.
What are some good examples of past customers?
I photographed a new range of perfume for a client and I was in charge of art direction for the shoot. I did a few test shots the day before the shoot to test out some creative ideas and different lighting styles, and my client loved them. She and asked me to carry on shooting in the same style. The shoot was relaxed and focussed, and enjoyed by all!
Describe a recent project that went well. Scope? How long did it take?
I recently photographed a Christmas hamper filled with packets of tea, biscuits, scones and jam. It's the kind of shot that looks easy but is actually quite complicated to set up. Thankfully I have a drawer full of things to assist with styling these kinds of products! For example, I used lots of small props hidden underneath to make the products stand up straight and not sink down, and extra straw to make the basket look generous. It was important to get the direction and quality of light just right so that there was no glare on the products labels.
How did you first get into this line of work?
I spent some time assisting on shoots for magazines like Elle Decoration and Living Etc, mainly styled interiors and still life shoots. This was great fun and I learned a lot of technical skills. After a while I was itching to go and find my own clients, so I started offering my services to local businesses and found that I really enjoy working with small businesses who share a love of creative product photography.
