About Elvira Nurmukhametova

I am a qualified and experienced yoga trainer and a language teacher. A slightly odd combination it may seem at first but in fact a very harmonious duet of skills. Having taught languages for a number of years and simultaneously practising yoga as a hobby and stress release on difficult teaching days, I gradually realised that I was keen to expand my practice. That also coincided with the knee injury where I knew that understanding the anatomy of the body was absolutely crucial for me to not repeat it and learn how to treat my body more mindfully. Besides I became interested in other aspects of yoga outside the physical practice and wanted to complement my knowledge of what yoga was perceived as in the Western world by an authentic approach taken in the heart and centre of yoga - India. I completed my Teacher Training course in Rishikesh and that's where I felt ready to turn my passion into my everyday life and start sharing my knowledge with others. My motto is that yoga should be in our daily lives, not just on the mat. I combine Vinyasa and Iyengar approaches in my lessons as I think it's good to warm up with a nice flow and then spend some time deepening your asanas using props and understanding the alignment. I try to devote 10 minutes to pranayama practice if time permits. Pranayama has extensive benefits of bringing more oxygen to your lungs, calming our nervous system when we are feeling anxious and opens up good foundation for mindful breathing, a skill we should all try to incorporate into our daily lives. I am a big fan of yoga in the fresh air as I believe it gives you a nice feeling of liberation - hence most of my images are taken outdoors. I also promote yoga in the workplace even if it's just a short break from your desk - a  few hamstring stretches, hip openers and/or a breathing exercise will help you reset, release stress and worries that we often accumulate during the day. My favourite yoga asanas are inversions. Besides the physical benefits of improved circulation,  building your core and arm muscle, they are a great therapy for your mind.  Plus the fact that there are so many variations of inversions, it makes them suitable to all levels -  the wall is always there to support you if you are a beginner practitioner while eagle tripodstand with arm variations  is there to challenge your perfect balance! I continuously do courses on professional development and have recently started a course on Sanskrit - which for me is not just the original language of yoga texts, but the very core of its spiritual foundation and philosophy. While knowing the poses in Sanskrit is not essential, understanding their origin gives you a much deeper insight into yoga all around. I have recently completed a course on Mindfulness, which, in my opinion, goes hand in hand with the yoga philosophy - combining two together opens up new undiscovered opportunities. I am very happy to share these with those who are interested in learning beyond asana practice.I've started sharing my personal discoveries on the instagram, please check my short videos there. I hope to hear from you soon! Namaste and keep breathing

Private Yoga Instruction
Andrew F.'s review on Jan 03, 2018

I engaged Elvira as a yoga instructor for 1-to-1 tuition as I had heard she is particularly good at working with those with injuries. I have a moderately serious back problem and had heard that yoga would be an effective way to help with the pain and strengthen the back. However, I was naturally apprehensive. Elvira was very sensitive to this from the start and immediately put me at my ease. She focusses very much on alignment and her use of props (such as blocks and belts) was also very helpful to a beginner such as myself. I noticed an improvement in my back condition after just a couple of months. But it wasn't just about the injury; Elvira is very passionate about her yoga and incorporates so much more into her instruction beyond just the postures. In addition to the physical aspect, Elvira is studying Sanskrit in parallel to her teaching and I even got some very useful advice from her on how diet can compliment the physical aspect. Overall, Elvira is a really friendly, smiley and enthusiastic teacher with a wonderfully positive attitude. I can't recommend her highly enough.

Penelope Z.'s review on Nov 20, 2017

Not sure where to start- Elvira was fantastic. Elvira taught a private session for a group of 7 of us, which she was more than happy to personalize as we requested and it was brilliant from beginning to end. She was very detailed and gave great attention to each one of us. She came to help every one of us with poses and was generally really thorough and encouraging. With her help and guidance, I realised that I am capable of much more than I thought! Can't wait to have another session with Elvira!

Elvira has an infectious enthusiasm as a teacher. This not only puts you immediately at ease but also makes learning yoga so much fun! This was important for me as I was a complete beginner. Her attention to detail is immaculate and she tailors her approach to the individual's needs. She places significant emphasis on the breathing, particularly when going through the transitions. She also greatly advocates the benefits of training outdoors which really makes you feel at one with nature when practising this craft. Her knowledge of the theory is well honed from her training in India but she very much focusses on the physical side with an impressive form of her own that inspires you to learn. I highly recommend Elvira if you want a strong, physical but fun introduction to yoga.
