About Daughter North
I'm Maria Usai, I'm a Swedish holistic practitioner and yoga teacher, and I specialise in yoga and holistic practices to promote physical and emotional well-being and as alternative approach to managing stress. I've been teaching yoga full time for the last 3 years, and had a personal practice for 8, and you can find me at selected studios in London (including More Yoga, Bind Yoga, and Re:Mind). Alongside my studio sessions I work with one to one clients, offering yoga and holistic practices (reiki healing & sound baths) as a holistic approach to wellness. My clients work with me to reduce stress, increase flexibility, progress along their spiritual journey or to give them self holistic support when healing from sustained injury or illness, including professional stress and burnout. I work regularly with corporate groups, hosting regular wellness days and yoga sessions for companies in and around London. I’m specialised in relaxing styles of yoga that supports the bodies natural healing abilities. I'm highly qualified in Vinyasa, Yin and Restorative yoga. These forms of yoga work on the deepest layers in the body, opening up the meridians (energy lines) so that your qi/ prana can flow freely and support you as you release stress and tension and increase your flexibility. You can read more in detail about the styles I offer below. I'm a qualified Reiki practitioner and sound healer and offer one to one or shared healing experiences. Each holistic practice has its own unique benefits and the sessions will be tailored to meet your or your groups requirements. YIN Yin yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga with postures, or asanas, that are held for longer periods of time—for beginners, it may range from 45 seconds to two minutes; more advanced practitioners may stay in one asana for five minutes or more. Yin poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body—the tendons, fascia, and ligaments—with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. A more meditative approach to yoga, Yin aims at cultivating awareness of inner silence, and bringing to light a universal, interconnecting quality. Prepare for a magical yoga journey with Yin elements, creating a balanced practice with powerful effect to improve your energy levels! Learn to connect with energy as it moves through your body. You’ll enjoy a series of soft deep stretches on the floor, Yin stretches targeting one area of the body in each session, allowing the body to sink into gentle intensity in each pose to align energy channels. Calm, gentle and satisfying. YIN FLOW A modern variation of the traditional yin. Perfect for yogis that prefer a more moving practice. This restorative yoga style combines gentle movement with traditional yin poses. RESTORATIVE YOGA Restorative yoga is a practice that is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching. During the long holds of restorative yoga your muscles are allowed to relax deeply. It's a unique feeling because of props, rather than your muscles, are used to support your body. This practice takes you out of the “fight or flight” mood that we spend so much time in though our busy life. The practice lowers the production on stress hormones and cortisol and helps you to relax on the deepest level, the poses will also balance your blood pressure, lover your heart rate and helps your body focus on nothing else then healing. VINYASA FLOW Vinyasa Flow is a challenging, dynamic flow-based yoga building focus, toning, strength and flexibility. Ancient Hatha yoga postures are performed in continuous, active flow, focusing on the coordination of breath and movement to lead practitioners progressively higher. Vinyasa Flow is a popular school of yoga that synchronises movement with breath. The practice tends to move at a faster pace than yin yoga, which makes it all the more important to be mindful of your alignment and breathing. While it is accessible to yogis of all levels and ages, it’s common in one’s early practice to find that some postures may be challenging for beginners. Not to worry! The beauty of Vinyasa is that there will be associated postures that prepare even the most challenged beginner for slightly more intermediate postures, so you will grow into your practice and begin doing things that you may never have imagined possible. As I always say, listen to your body and treat all yoga postures as a journey, not as a destination. Experience core yoga bliss as your body is challenged into deep stretches and effective shoulder and hip opening postures. YANG / YIN Yin Yang Yoga blends two styles of yoga into one practice - bringing together the benefits of passively holding yoga poses with more dynamic sequences and standing postures. Yin and Yang are the Taoist concepts which describe the two relative qualities present in everything. Yin is more internal, passive, cooling and downward. While Yang is more external, dynamic, warming and upward. When these terms are applied to yoga, Yin Yoga is a slower practice where poses are passively held for longer, working on the deep, dense (Yin) connective tissues and joints in the body. Yang Yoga, in contrast, refers to a more active practice working on the (Yang) muscles and blood flow, building strength, stamina and flexibility. Yang styles of yoga are those with rhythm and repetition like Vinyasa. This a perfect practice for groups and corporative classes as it gives you two different styles of yoga and something for everyone. SOUND BATHS A sound healing session is a meditative experience which takes you on a journey to deep relaxation, healing and self discovery. You will experience the healing power of the sound vibrations as they penetrate our body on the deepest level, aligning and awaken your chakras and release any emotional blockages you hold. REIKI HEALING The practice aids relaxation, assist in the body's natural healing processes, and develop emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Reiki induce deep relaxation, help people cope with difficulties, relieve emotional stress, and improve overall well-being.

Maria Leads a weekly lunchtime yoga session for the Staff at Woodlands Park Nursery School. She tailors each session to meet the needs of the group as well as tuning in to individuals and providing support, encouragement and challenge where necessary. The Staff have recognised a real and significant improvement in their sense of well-being and their overall physical strength. Maria has a wonderful, warm and responsive approach and is motivating, sensitive and extremely reliable. Our Yoga sessions have definitely become the highlight of the week!!
Maria is an healer with a special touch. A professional and trained reiki expert with a natural gift to make your experience useful, powerful and unique. I recommend her both if you want to work on your body or on your deepest blockages, soul and mind.
Maria made me feel very comfortable, like in a space out of time which helped me cut off from outside world. She sensed the energies of my body with accuracy and gave me an amazing feed back about it so I knew what to work on. I highly recomand any type of private sessions with Maria, either yoga session or healing session.
Lovely, constructive session, and Maria had really taken the time to plan our upcoming sessions around my goals. Really enjoyed it.
Maria is a fantastic yoga instructor, with a great breadth of knowledge regarding yoga, the body, breathing practises, focusing the mind and meditation. She is warm, welcoming and professional. The space is calming and comfortable. I cannot recommend working with her enough, whether it is for mental, physical or emotional benefits. I am so happy to have found her to work with, I have tried a number of yoga options previously and none have made the impression she has or the results in such a short space of time. Worth every penny and more!! Dani
i has always been sceptical about Yoga, but Maria introduced me to Yin yoga which has totally changed my view. If anyone wants a great instructor Maria is definitely the one you should go to .
I have been receiving Reiki healing from Maria for the last month and I can honestly say she is fantastic and I can't recommend her enough. She is so dedicated to my personal healing journey and works with me so gently. I went though a professional burn out followed by a divorce about a year ago, and I found Maria by coincidence; I wish our path would have crossed sooner as I feel better today then what I have in a long time. Her studio is so lovely and beautiful, and I feel so safe and looked after while I'm there. It's like a mini retreat meeting there! Her Reiki sessions as relaxing, soothing and comforting, and once I also received a message from one of my angels which she gave me, and it was spot on!
You have been teaching me for almost 6 moth now and I absolutely love our Yin Yoga sessions. when I first reached out to you my main goal was to gain flexibility and openness my physical body, but our session have given me so much more. I find that your guided mediation and the way you have taught me to connect with my breath and listen to my body have totally transformed the way I feel about myself and my body. So alongside flexibility I have gained confidence and love for myself. Thank you so much for your dedication to me as a student and that you so generally share your knowledge about all things yogi. I wish you a wonderful holiday season and I can't wait to get back to our regular practice in 2019.
