About Chris Joseph Perry | Headshots & Portraits

I'm Chris and i'm a headshot and portrait photographer with a unique approach. Getting to know you throughout the session to bring out the best in you. Portraits are very personal so my attitude towards work, my coaching ability and personality allow you to feel relaxed, making it easy for you to shrug off any insecurities so that the real you can be captured. This results in a much more honest and authentic image that tells your story from your perspective. I love connecting with people, I'm very aware of my own insecurities and vulnerabilities, especially when there is a camera in front of you. I was an actor myself once upon a time, so I understand what it feels like. My approach will make you feel at ease, it'll be like we're just hanging out. I place a great emphasis in getting to know who you are as a person so we can capture that together.

I had a very pleasant experience having my photos taken with Chris. His direction while taking the photos produced some great results. He made me feel comfortable during the process and always kept up good communication before the shoot and after so I knew where I stood. Highly recommended.

Questions & answers

What should customers know about your pricing? (E.g. estimates, discounts, fees, package pricing)
Below is the pricing structure I usually use, however first time clients through bidvine will receive £20 off headshots and £50 off portraits. Hedshots Headshot sessions last up to 1 1/2 hours and consist of a few different looks, mainly focused on you and delivering you a great headshot. You will receive coaching throughout the process on the best angles and facial expressions to deliver a great headshot. 1 Hour session - £145 (Includes 3 retouched images) Portraits In a portrait session we like to shoot a wide variety of looks, so these can last up to 3 hours. This gives us the opportunity to explore who you are and what you want from the portrait. We make sure that what we are capturing is authentic, honest and a real portrayal of your personality. 1 1/2 Hour session - £255 (Includes 5 retouched images)
What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
Before I shoot anything, I like to take the time to talk to my clients beforehand for anywhere between 2 and 20 minutes (obviously this chat isn't part of the session time) Getting to know people before a session not only helps you feel at ease, but it also helps me work out how to approach the shoot. I'm not a robot, I don't have a formula for people, I have a structure to my sessions of course, but everyone is different and everyone deserves a chance to talk and feel relaxed and we get to discuss what you want out of the session. It's supposed to be a fun experience so I like to make sure people know that I'm a bit of a goof and to just accept it, go with the flow and you will see the results.
What education or training is most relevant to your work?
I never had any formal training, I studied a media and performance degree and there was an element to lighting that I enjoyed a lot. The majority of training has been on the frontline of being a freelance photographer, working with really talented people that have taught me their wonderful tricks and tips about being a great photographer. I photograph people, so a lot of what I've learned over the years is that lenses and lighting are for sure very important. But the most important thing for me is making a genuine connection with my clients, that is how you capture honesty and stand out images that really make an impact.
Do you have tips or advice for someone hiring a pro in your line of work?
Look at their work. If you like a photographers style, go with them. The likely hood is that you will get a headshot or a portrait that you like, because you like that style. Never try and persuade a photographer to shoot a style that they are not used to, this will make you both uncomfortable and the results will be terrible.
What questions should customers have ready before speaking to pros about their project?
You need to set out your expectations and agree them all, in writing, beforehand. That way there is a level of accountability and no confusion as to what is required or expected. Make sure you know what is or isn't included, there are some scallywags that will add on charges for retouched images extra time/changing of outfits etc. I have a clear section on my website that lays out exactly what is included, how much it costs and what to expect in each session. Your photographer should be able to provide all this information, if they don't give you answers, don't give them business. Don't be afraid to ask questions about photo rights or equipment etc. Photographers usually love talking about their gear. Ask them if they need anything from you. Lastly ask yourself if you could see yourself getting along with the person, if you like them it usually results in a better photograph.
What are some good examples of past customers?
My past clients have mainly been stage and screen actors, but I also photograph, business professionals, CEO's and other creatives like artists and musicians. Nobody famous though (as yet).
