I teach Key stage 3, 4 & 5 as well as Adults. My main instruments are Piano, Pipe Organ, Keyboard & Vocals. I prepare students for external music exams as well as for pure enjoyment in learning new technique and various skills. I teach for life change through encouragement, support, disciplined weekly practice, patience and concern for the student I am teaching. Lessons are 30 - 60 minutes per week. Lessons consist of technique, theory, scales and arpeggios, repertoire and assessment as well as preparation for live performance. I am also capable of teaching amateur Church Organists to improve their technique for Sunday Services, Weddings and Funerals. Music is my gift from God - what I do with it is my gift back to Him.

Singing Lessons
Katie A.'s review on Aug 10, 2020

I had the honour of being taught by Aurette during high school, specifically through GCSE Performing Arts and Music. I was very shy and lacked confidence massively but Aurette saw something in me that I didn't even know was there, she recognised I had some singing ability and nurtured my confidence to a level in which I could get the best out of my voice and be confident enough to express myself through music. She was encouraging, kind, compassionate and extremely patient with me, she encouraged me to sing at the school talent show (my first public performance) and though I struggled with nerves, she was adaptable, allowing me to sing whilst seated. This was a big step for me, only made possible through Aurette's encouragement and teaching. I left school 7 years ago now and I can confidently say that the person I am now - a more confident, independent, not so shy young woman has everything to do with what Aurette did for me. I couldn't have wished for a better teacher and one of the biggest lessons she taught me was to believe in myself and believe in my abilities, because she always believed in me and still does. A fantastic, compassionate and encouraging teacher.

Keith S.'s review on Jul 01, 2020

By far my best and favourite music teacher (after my Grandma of course who got me started). Not only did she cover the basics but was able to draw out and encourage those parts of my creativity that I still use today. She saw a passion for song writing so tailored lessons to encourage that along with the fundamentals. As a lifelong professional musician I can not thank Aurette enough for her investment in me over those years.

Piano Lessons
Wendy C.'s review on Jun 24, 2020

Aurette is an extremely diligent teacher, who I have known for over 15 years. Her subject knowledge is excellent, and she is a talented organist and pianist, and an outstanding classroom teacher. Her planning to meet individual needs is exemplary and she has a great talent for adapting her teaching to suit needs of her pupils as the lesson progresses, whether to go back and reinforce something she sees they are struggling with, or will pose extra challenges for those who need stretching. Aurette has a great pastoral nature, and pupils of all ages and abilities will benefit from her of them as people, not just pupils. She will expect high standards from her pupils, and will always give honest and constructive advice. Aurette is completely trustworthy and I wouldn't hesitate to employ her again. I wholeheartedly recommend her.

Aurette is always well prepared for lessons. She differentiated the materials she used to support my learning. She is easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. Aurette also ensured that she stayed up to date with current trends by completing training and development regularly. She is conscientious and has a great sense of humour. Aurette is honest and compassionate.

Sean S.'s review on Jun 23, 2020

Had the honour of being taught by aurette in all aspects of music from theory/harmony to working on grades to advanced posture/articulation over a period of 5 years. Without doubt the best and most effective teaching experience I've had and with such a gifted and pleasant woman. I cannot recommend highly enough the education provided by Aurette. Aurette's mass of knowledge and talent used with her exceptional communication proves for really insightful, successful learning. Seriously, a first class investment and an absolute joy to be tutored by her.

Singing Lessons
Luqman B.'s review on Jun 19, 2020

I hired Aurette in a hope to further escalate my voice in ways and means I couldn’t see myself as a budding RnB and soul artist. Aurette helped me in a huge array of ways by teaching me in a professional and amazing way just how to elevate my vocals to the next level. Breathing control and control of tone and pitch with my voice using alternate methods to have a fuller control of my voice. I would recommend using Aurette for further guidance and help increasing musical knowledge especially in the vocal aspect and I feel thanks to her my music thay I aspire to put out this summer is a huge load better than I thought it would be. From the vocals to the overall musical experience Aurette helped me in a huge array of ways through the little amount of sessions we did have and my confidence in myself and voice has improved hugely.

Questions & answers

What should customers know about your pricing? (E.g. estimates, discounts, fees, package pricing)
Although the going rate for Music teacher according to ISM is £39 and hour, I am prepared to charge the following to start off my business - £20 per hour; £15 per 30 minutes.
What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
I welcome them and discuss what they want from wanting to learn to play the piano or learn how to sing. I then pass on information of how I teach, my expectations of their support and homework delivery.I also test their aural and rhythmical abilities. Weekly lesson are essential in order to make progress. If after 3 months, I see no progress and homework is not being done, I will request to terminate lessons. If progress is being made, I will offer them the opportunity to start either external Music examinations or follow a path which feels more comfortable for them. Children up to the age of 10 years old, will receive 30 minute lessons practical and 30 minutes theory, aural and technique, in order to build up their skills in their first year of Music. Young Adults and Adults will receive 60 minute lessons, where theory is taught alongside practical and technique, following adult music lesson books.
What education or training is most relevant to your work?
Formal routines are put in place so that students are shown the ropes of how to practice and improve ones' skills in music. For beginners, whether chidren or adults, a friendly appraoch or 1-to-1 teaching is essential, with parent/carer being present to observe the lesson, if this is their preference. Students are shown HOW to practice in order to achievce success in the skills. I am able top offer formal preparation for external Music examinations in all boards in the UK. I am also able to offer support and help towards preapration and imprpovements for GCSE MUSIC and DRAMA as well as AS and A LEVEL MUSIC and DRAMA.
Do you have tips or advice for someone hiring a pro in your line of work?
Bear in mind that I have 33 years of classroom teaching Music and 15 of Drama - so I am used to teaching all ages in a friendly, approachable manner, but I expect work delivered in order to make progress. If students are not working on their skills on a weekly basis, progress will not be occuring, and it will be pointless continuing to have lessons - you would be wasting your money; I would be wasting my time and your child may be learning the piano because he has been forced to, rather than want to. Pushy Parents are easy to spot and I will ensure that these situations are nipped in the bud. Students who WANT to learn to play the piano must WANT to do so from within - not be pushed to do so.
What questions should customers have ready before speaking to pros about their project?
How often do I need to practice between lessons? What equipment do I need for practicing? why are weekly lessons essential?
What are some good examples of past customers?
I am new to this system due to teaching full time for 33 years, and only having some private students over weekend. Past studsents have become Music teachers; one is a conduactor in Canada; Another is a teacher in Australia; students doing GCSE now with me achieve 100% A* to C grades or 9-7 in the new awarding system.
Describe a recent project that went well. Scope? How long did it take?
Recent project would be the completion of Blood Brothers with my GCSE Drama group, 1 week before lockdown - All 5 Acts have been filmed and graded and all students have excelled and passed to add to their GCSE grade. The project took from Septemebr 2019, with 150 minutes a week, and we completed rehearsal and filming on 16 March 2020.
How did you first get into this line of work?
I have loved Music and Drama from a little tot, starting lessons in Piano aged 3 years old. I only ever wanted to become a Music and Drama teacher. I realised my Music dream in 1987 and became a Music teacher; on emigrating to the UK I retrained as a Drama teacher and have been teaching HIgh School and private AS and A level students for the past 15 years.
