About Ana-Lavinia Vlad

My name is Lavinia and I am a classical violinist! I have a Bachelor of Music Degree from the Royal Academy of Music and am passionate about sharing music with others particularly through teaching and mentoring musicians of all ages. I have been teaching for over five years and work with musicians of all levels and ages. I am happy to teach students with a variety of goals for their musical development. Whether for a hobby or more serious involvement, I will put my utmost effort into providing unique lessons directed towards your individual learning style and objectives! My biography can be found below: Ana-Lavinia Vlad completed her undergraduate degree at the Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Professor Joshua Fisher, following two years of working with Remus Azoitei. From Romania, to Canada, to America and finally to London – Lavinia has migrated to many stages and teachers in order to feed her love of music. During her studies, she has had the pleasure of playing alongside the Academy’s Symphony Orchestra in the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall and has had various performances in London’s Cadogan Hall, St. Paul’s Covent Garden and multiple popular concert venues. She has also had the opportunity to work with amazing musicians and conductors including Sir Mark Elder, Robert Trevino, Thomas Gould, Jac van Steen and Marin Alsop. Lavinia has won numerous Canadian awards from the Kiwanis Music Festival, Kitchener Waterloo Symphony Youth Orchestra and competitions she has attended. She has also, for multiple years, been a top prize winner of the Canadian Music Competition. She enjoys performing alongside the Fidelio Quartet and has participated in countless orchestral performances, many times leading orchestras such as the Horton Chamber Orchestra, the KWS Youth Orchestra and the Firebird Orchestra. In 2014, Lavinia had her solo debut with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, alongside American conductor John Morris Russell at the Centre in the Square, which is regarded as “one of the finest performance spaces in North America”. Following her debut, she was invited back to perform with the orchestra on multiple occasions, playing prominent repertoire such as Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole and the Sibelius Violin Concerto.

Violin Lessons
FELICIAN G.'s review on Oct 09, 2020

I've had the pleasure of re-descovering the violin and music with the help of Lavinia. She was at every step understanding of what i wanted to achieve in music and offered advices at all times, even outside the time that i paid to have my violin lessons. Witha vast knowleadge in music, playing both violin and piano, was grateful to have met her to be instructed on my first steps back into music. I do recommend her and would not hesitate to ask for her help if needed, whether being in studying violin or piano.

Violin Lessons
Slawomir B.'s review on Sep 02, 2020

As an adult (37yo) learner of violin that has managed to acquire some bad habits with an unguided start, doesn't know too much about music theory, and is doing it very part time for a (committed!) hobby, I am sure I am someone requiring an especially perceptive teacher with lots of ingenuity, patience and motivation. Ana-Lavinia Vlad has been delivering on that need comprehensively for 8 months now, patiently giving me a continuous stream of pointers, bespoke exercise ideas to address my weaknesses, motivational reminders and a good dose of honest and objective feedback. I cannot recommend her enough!

Questions & answers

What process do you go through when starting with a new customer?
When I begin teaching an individual, especially beginners, I make sure that I inspire them and teach them the value and beauty of music. I am very thorough about teaching technique properly so that it will last and be an asset in one's musical future, but I still like to keep my students on their toes and excited about actually making music and adding life to the notes they draw out of their instruments. Each individual is different and has different goals they wish to achieve with their playing, thus, for me it is very important to establish a connection with my students and cater each lesson to their specific needs and learning style.
