About Alex Stevens

As a creative carpenter with experience of many different aspects of the trade, I am a hardworking dedicated male. I thrive off challenges and enjoy setting myself new goals to help improve my work. There are many aspects of life that enjoy, which range from woodwork to fishing. On completing my school life I was selected to do an apprenticeship in Bench Joinery and Carpentry at Barnwood construction/shop fitting Ltd in Gloucester. I have achieved my NVQ level 3 in Bench joinery. During my time at Barnwood (3 years), I worked on site, away from home for weeks at a time, and in the workshop, learning a huge amount of skills along the way. This included producing and fitting doors, windows, and stud walls, skirting, flooring and unitary. I have often made these products in the workshop myself and then fitted them on site. This included using a work van to deliver products and materials to other colleagues working on site in different locations. I understand how essential and important the use of health and safety equipment is so I include this within my daily work. I have a lot of my own tools that allow me to work to a high standard. I know have a large range of experience with working from 1st fixing and 2nd fixing work, to fitting kitchens, building roofs, refurbishing projects and getting involved with the management of projects and designs. My work is always completed to a high standard, and this provides good customer services and personal job satisfaction. I have a high work ethic; I am flexible with my availability to work different hours and drive to succeed in everything I do. Employment History Dalton Homes- Sub-contracting. Septmber 2017- Present Within this post I have had to deal with a range of difference scenarios, and use a whole range of my skillset and knowledge to perform an extensive range of tasks. This ranges from refurbishing old buildings, to redesigning kitchens, doors, frames and fencing. I use a range of my own tools to perform my duties at the highest standard. I have also been working on rectifying old work and providing a full carpentry service for this contract. The role has allowed me to show my skillset to a large range of trades, and perform within projects of my own. I have been a flexible worker, and committed on site when needed and work above and beyond. Self-employed /sub contacted December 2014- – September 2017 John Churchill construction Ltd I have been sub-contracted for the last two years to John Churchill and I have learnt a lot within this period. I have had to travel many miles around for work and I put a lot of hours to be committed to the job. I have worked on small jobs, like little extensions to multi-million pound houses. This involves all first fist work. Joists, trussed roofs, cut roofs, velex windows, stud work structural and not structural, floor boards, skirting, architrave, doors, door linings ,units, stairs, kitchens and fridge and dishwasher integrated doors as well as extracted hoods. I am trusted here to teach apprentices, guide people on new projects and I am left to make my own decisions. Within this role I have also installed stud walls, put in partition walls, put up plasterboard and plastered the wall when completed. During this time, I have also been involved with other tasks that we have had the opportunity to work on. This includes laying flooring, putting up fence panels, and building external bits on properties. This job has given me huge range of experience in the last few years. I worked here within a multi-disciplinary team. This allowed me to develop my skillset and increase my potential. I have experienced project management opportunities, and allowed me to be involved in the management of jobs. I always focus on delivering a high quality product and good customer service. I used a range of tools ranging from drills, saws, sanders, chisels, planers, joiners and routers. Percy Blackwell builders A different range of work such at roofing, cut and trusses, all second fix work, doors unit’s kitchens and other building trades. This also included tilling, flooring and screaking. All jobs ranged from little builds to big build. I gained a range of skills here as I was performing other trades, which allowed me to develop my experience. It gave me experience within the construction trade. Percy Blackwell & Turnkey Construction. May 2014 – December 2014 I worked here as a bench joiner and carpenter. During my time here I have been assigned to a great number or tasks, allowing me to develop my skills and progress with my development as a tradesman. I have participated in jobs ranging from first fix, second fix carpentry, and concreting. Along with working on roofs, tiling and assisting with general building work. Barnwood Shop fitting Ltd. June 2010 – May 2014 I have completed my apprenticeship with Barnwood, and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to have worked in the workshop and on site in various locations across the country. I was there in excess of 3 years, and feel I have learnt so many valuable skills that will help me in my future career. I have gained experience in making units, worktops, doors and linings, curved work and counters for national businesses such as Nationwide and Vodaphone stores. Throughout my apprenticeship at Barnwood, I feel I have learnt how to use and be safe with tools and machinery related to Bench Joinery and Carpentry. I always worked to the best of my ability and was always flexible with my hours. I regularly worked night shifts and twilight hours, to ensure I got the job completed on time. Work Experience Lobby’ Tackle Fishing Tackle Shop One Week in May 2009 During my work experience, my placement involved serving customers at the till, stock replenishment, and general tidying on the shop floor. I developed communication skills with customers when I helped them with queries and learnt how to cope under pressure during busy times. I was trusted in this job role to handle money and work on my own initiative. Education Park Infants, Stonehouse September 2000 – July 2002 St Matthew’s Primary School, Cashes Green September 2002 – July 2005 Rednock School, Dursley September 2005 – June 2010 Qualifications Rednock School, Dursley VQ Stroud College Barnwood Shopfitting Ltd. Skills and Abilities I am very ‘hands on’ and like to get practically involved in tasks. I have learnt the importance of good time keeping. Have developed great communication skills. I am very reliable and punctual. Often described as caring and considerate. I have developed useful computer skills, including use of ‘Word’ etc. and sending e-mails. My work is performed at a high standard. I am a good team player. I strive to be successful in my work and have pride in everything I do. Interests and Hobbies Producing my own woodwork. This is mainly at home, where I enjoy making anything from picture frames to garden furniture. I make these products for family members and friends. I have been fishing for around 13 years now, and have won various trophies and medals during local competitions. I also use my time when fishing to relax and socialise. During my school years, I was part of Rednock’s Rugby team. I was very into this sport and still often attend matches in my spare time at weekends. I am a very proud dog owner to 4 Border Collies. I have taken them to various training sessions and have even won competitions at dog shows with them. Additional Information I have a full, clean driving licence and my own, reliable car which is very well looked after. I am willing to travel to and from work and have gained experience in driving work vans in my previous jobs. I also have a CSCS card.
