Answers to the most common questions about being a local service professional on Bidvine.
The big ones
How does Bidvine work?
Bidvine acts as your partner in exposing you to more potential customers and making it easier to convert those leads into new work.
Customers come to Bidvine looking for professionals like you, in more than 800 services including home improvement and maintenance, gardening, events, weddings, photography, language lessons, music lessons, wellness, fitness, coaching and sport, business services, writing and translation, computer repair and more. Phew!
Customers answer a few questions specific to that service about what they need. We send that info to the local pros in the area who are a good fit to see if they are interested.
If you are one of those pros, and the job looks right, you pay to send a message and a bid through the Bidvine app or website. If you seem like the right fit, they’ll hire you. Or if they need more information, they’ll send you a message. That’s where we step away and give you the tools to communicate with the customer, but the job is between you and them.
What does Bidvine cost to use?
Bidvine costs nothing to join. When you want to send a message with a bid to a customer, you buy Bidvine credits and use them to send this bid.
You can see how much it’ll cost to message each customer before sending your bid, although that number changes depending on the work and competition in the area. Typically, smaller jobs like one-off house cleaning or minor repairs will cost less to send a bid, while larger jobs like a major remodel will cost more.
If my bid is not viewed, do I get my credits back?
You do. If your bid is not viewed by the customer within 4 days after you send it, we refund you the credits that you used to send the bid. If the customer views your bid after we refund you, you still keep the credits.
When can I expect to get hired?
For some pros it might happen with one of the first bids they send, and with others, it can take longer. It really differs by service and other factors. Some services are more popular than others, and some need more back and forth before the customer comes to a decision. Our top pros told us they got hired faster by bidding within a few minutes of being sent the request, personalising their message, having a few reviews in their profile (you can ask old customers to review you), making sure their profile shows good examples of similar work and writing careful mistake-free bid messages.
How do I hear back from customer more often? How do I get hired?
We put together our Get Hired Guide to answer this specific question. In short, do the following 4 things:
Write professional messages. Give attention to detail and professionalism to the bid messages you send and customers are more likely to trust that you’ll use the same attention to detail on their house, fitness, piano skills or wedding photos.
Give an estimate. It’s easy to say to that you need more info and not provide a price, but at least providing an hourly rate or a general estimate of your typical job size goes a long way to helping the customer shortlist the bids they received.
Get reviews. Get reviews from every customer who hires you on Bidvine. Ask past customers to add a review to your profile. Pros with reviews are more likely to get hired, it’s that simple.
Build a winning profile. Potential customers check your Bidvine profile when deciding who to work with. Write a great description, add portfolio images, have a profile photo that shows your face and doing the simple things like capitalising your company name is as important as doing the little things when you deliver your service to customers.
How do I get started?
You’ll use the form at the top of this page to select the primary service that you offer. You’ll then create an account and complete your public profile. This profile will be like a webpage for your business on Bidvine.
We’ll then send you matching requests based on your services and travel preferences. And away you go!
How do I qualify to work on Bidvine?
Based on the services we list here on the website you can determine if you offer a service that we support. If you are unable to find a service you offer in the dropdown above, then get in touch with us.
As part of building your profile you will provide information about your business to us. We’ll run a number of verifications on that information and let you know if you’re approved and ready to go.
When I sign up, am I locked in for a certain period of time?
When you join Bidvine you pay nothing and commit to no fixed term – unlike some of the ratings websites out there. We like flexibility and assume that you do too.
Stay active as long as you want. Take a break when you need to. Do what makes sense for your business.
How will customers find me and book my services?
You’ll indicate where you work and what services you offer. We’ll then send you job requests that match. You don’t need to search through leads or hunt for business. You can focus on deciding which leads are the best fit, bid on the work, and then deliver great service.
Can I specify specific areas where I offer my services?
You can indicate if customers travel to you, or if you travel to them – and how far.
For services such as with some web design services or language lessons, you can indicate if you deliver your services remotely over the phone or internet. Choose what makes the most sense for your business.
What are Bidvine credits?
You buy Bidvine credits, and use Bidvine credits to pay to send bids.
You can buy credits in bundles and we apply volume discounts to these larger one-time purchases.
We also refund your credits if your bid isn’t viewed within 4 days of you sending it.
How many credits do I have to buy?
On your first purchase, we make you buy enough credits to send 10 bids. Our most successful pros started out sending about 10 bids before they got hired. During that period they refined their bids and messages, shortened their response time, and won business.
After your first purchase you can pay as you go, or buy a credit bundle – the more you buy, the more you save.
Pay for leads? Aren’t word of mouth and referrals better?
If you can get enough new business opportunities from referrals and word of mouth and can pick and choose your customers, and never feel like you are missing out on a broader view of the market, then stick to that.
For everyone else, referrals are a part of building a business, but you don’t want to waste time hunting for customers.
With Bidvine, you keep your ear to the market in a big way, pick and choose where you invest your time and marketing money, and dive in when you want to, or sit back until you have a down period or feel seasonality. Why wouldn’t you?
Why not charge monthly fees?
We don’t do subscriptions like some of the “others” because you pay these guys whether you use the website or not, send bids or not, get hired or not. That’s great for them, but not a deal for you.
Others don’t cap the number of pros who can bid, so you could be competing with 10 other pros for the job. We cap the number of pros who can bid, and in most cases it’s only you and 1 other pro.
