(This review was taken over the phone by Bidvine) Customer's Name: Sylvana Cremona Review: Charmaine is very nice and very patient. She gave me the motivation, the interest in playing the piano again. When you are playing you have to focus on it but because of Charmaine, she guided me well on how it should be done. It's not about only playing you have to learn the note and Charmaine guides me. Thats why I gave her 5 star cause she leads me to explore. When I teach again, I really want to be just like her.

Brent Park, North West London NW10 0LH
I am based in the North London area and teach flute from beginner to advanced standards and piano from beginner to intermediate, all ages welcome. Mainly ABRSM/Trinity syllabuses but happy to teach outside the syllabus too and more than willing to find music suited to each student I teach. Usually I will include some music theory teaching within instrumental lessons but this can be arranged separately also. I graduated with a Music degree (2:1) from the University of Surrey in 2015 where I majored in flute performance. I am currently studying for an MSc in Performance Science at the Royal College of Music due to my interest in musicians' injuries and treatment while also working for the NHS part time.

I divide my time between teaching piano and playing in a three-piece alternative rock band in which I play keyboard/synth, bass guitar and trumpet. I learnt to play piano through Queen, Coldplay and The Beatles, and I encourage students to learn by playing the music they love too. I believe that playing by ear is an essential skill for all musicians, regardless of what style you want to conquer - quite a bit of time will be devoted to developing these skills. I studied music at King's College, London where I received a 1st. During my time there, I had weekly lessons at the Royal Academy of Music. This part of my background puts me in an ideal place to teach performance skills, theory, composition and to introduce my students to an exciting and inspiring repertoire. I am DBS/CRB-certified.

Hello, if you'd love to learn to play the piano from scratch, pick up where you left off or simply discover the joy in different styles of piano-playing, I'd love to assist you in this amazing process. Why me? I am a pianist and piano teacher. As a performer, I have played in America, Serbia, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Japan, and Italy. At the age of 13, I performed on BBC 1's The One Show to an audience of 2 million people, being featured as a "child prodigy" jazz pianist alongside Jools Holland. Then in 2012, I was in the semi-final of the Montreux Jazz Piano Competition in Switzerland, one of Europe's most prestigious jazz piano competitions. Since then I have been building my career in London, as well as studying in America at Princeton University from 2012-2014. I have studied with a series of private teachers both in jazz and classical piano, as well as being mentored in improvisation by some major figures in American jazz, including the alto player of America's longest-running Big Band, the Sun Ra Arkestra. Through taking on private pupils I seek to pass on the knowledge I have acquired to others, so if you're interested in learning the piano in a very thorough and informative way, don't hesitate to reach out! I am skilled in a number of different styles of piano-playing: jazz, latin, blues, soul, rock, classical, boogie-woogie, hip-hop, and pop. I can also offer special help with the areas of improvisation, sight-reading, and ear training. Lessons focus on the basics first - technique, rhythm, reading, ear skills. Then over time more and more challenging and interesting material is introduced, based on what the student wishes to study. My ultimate aim is to educate my students into being competent both in reading music and in improvising and playing things by ear, as I believe both are essential to being a well-rounded musician. From playing piano in these different styles and four years of teaching, I have developed a style of teaching which is very adaptable to the individual pupil. I teach at my home in Northchurch, Berkhamsted. There is a piano here as well as a variety of electronic keyboards and a sound system to listen to musical examples. So, to summarise: If you would like to learn to play piano in a number of different styles, in a fun and relaxed environment, from one of the UK's top professional jazz pianists, it would be a pleasure to teach you. Please don't hesitate to contact if you have any questions. Charlie
