There is just something about watermelon that screams summer. What better way to kick off your summer dinner party than with a watermelon salad? These are also quite simple to make.

All you need to do is prepare your salad as you normally would with fresh lettuce, peppers and cucumbers. Then slice up some watermelon and add it in! If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, you could also try grilling the watermelon to make a grilled watermelon salad.

Stay hydrated at your party with a pitcher of refreshing fruit punch. From lemonades to fruity sangria, your fruit punch options are literally endless. No matter which recipe you settle on, be sure to mix in some fresh fruits. Fresh cuts of pineapple, strawberries, watermelon, blueberries and oranges will all add a unique flavour to your guests’ glasses.

Should you decide to go with the watermelon salad mentioned above, we recommend opting for a watermelon punch as well. To infuse your punch with watermelon flavour you can either add fresh chunks of watermelon to the pitcher, or you can even serve the punch out of a hollowed watermelon!

One of the best parts about hosting a party during the summer is that you can entertain your guests outside. Outdoor Party Lighting

Outdoor Party Lighting

If you’re hosting a summer dinner party then chances are it will run after sunset. However, that doesn’t mean the party needs to stop. When you set up outdoor party lighting you and your guests will be able to continue celebrating long after sunset.

For an enchanting and fairytale look, hang string lights along the branches of the trees in your yard. We simply love the ethereal look this creates in the picture above.

Along with these ethereal touches, you should also include some practical lights which illuminate walking areas. Often referred to as moonlights, these bright little lanterns are usually attached to the top of stakes which are placed into the ground. It is best to put these every few feet along the garden path, that way your guests will be able to walk comfortably without tripping.

Moonlights are also environmentally friendly. During the day they soak up sunlight which charges their batteries. Then at night, they will glow nice and brightly.

Another fun idea is to use glow in the dark paint to paint a few rocks around your garden. While this won’t illuminate your garden quite as effectively as pathway lights or string lights, they will create a fun and whimsical atmosphere at your summer party.

Garden party decorations are a fun way to add a creative touch to your summer party. For a fail-safe decor option place some fresh cut flowers as the centrepiece at the dining table. You can guarantee that the fragrant floral notes will be a hit with your guests.

Alternatively, for a unique twist, you could opt for a cutting of a vibrant and lush green fern. When paired with table linen in deep green hues your fern cuttings will look posh and elegant.

Don’t forget to add a few tealights or outdoor lanterns as well to cast a warm glow over the celebrations when dusk arrives.

If you’re hosting a garden tea party instead of a dinner party, let the theme of your party rule the decor. Place a teacup and teapot at every table. Feel free to transform one of your teapots into a vase as well. Some fresh cut flowers will look delightful when placed in a teapot vase.

For tea parties taking place in the evening, you could also transform your teapots into candle holders. These adorable candles will add a lovely glow to your quaint garden party.

Don’t forget to involve your guests in the theme as well. Invite everyone to show up wearing fascinators or elegant garden party hats for an extra spot of fun.

When you are hosting a tropical party bright pops of colour are essential. When you head out to gather your decorations, be sure to opt for vibrant blues, greens, oranges, pinks and yellows. If you aren’t able to find fresh cut flowers in your preferred colour, then try paper cut-outs instead.

There are a variety of different paper cut-outs available in party stores whether you’re looking for sophisticated or simple and fun. Then, coordinate your bright floral decorations with the colours of your placemats, napkins and candle holders.

With so many bright colours, your tropical party will no doubt feel like you’re somewhere more exotic than the UK!

Christmas Karaoke

Christmas Carol Karaoke Party

We all know it gets colder outside around Christmas, and carolling is not as popular as it used to be.

But what if you and your friends love Christmas carols? What are you to do? A simple solution to your dilemma is to carol indoors, in the comfort of your own home.

That sounds crazy, right? It doesn’t have to be. By renting a karaoke machine, you can host a Christmas party that revolves around carolling without even going outside. Luckily for you, you can find a karaoke machine rental company on Bidvine.

Practice karaoke enough, and you could become a good enough singer to be a guest on Carpool Karaoke! Imagine following in the footsteps of celebs like One Direction and Elton John! Sure, it’s unlikely, but you can create your own videos to the same tune and have plenty of fun with your friends.

If you’re interested in brushing up on your vocal skills before you host a karaoke party at any time of the year, hire a singing teacher. They can help you on your way to singing glory!

Kids Party Food Ideas

We all know that the food is the most important part of any party. That’s even truer when it comes to kids parties since they are often fussy eaters. If you’re struggling to come up with ideas for your party’s menu, we’re here to save the day. Here are a few ideas for birthday parties and regular parties alike that we’re sure will please the pickiest of children.

Sweet Buffet

Sweet Buffet

How amazing does a buffet of sweets sound? While it may not be the healthiest option, this buffet tops our list of kids party ideas. Your child’s guests will be able to choose from a buffet of sweets and chocolates and create their own mix. To make it even more fun, ask your professional to create an ice cream sundae buffet. That would be the perfect complement to a summer birthday party in the park or a carnival-themed party at home! The possibilities are endless with sweet buffets.

Food Truck

Food Trucks

If you have the space for it, hosting a food truck gathering is a great idea for older kids and adults alike. When you’re hosting a party outdoors, food trucks are the best catering choice. They’ll require less clean-up of dishes, and add some fun the party’s atmosphere. You’ll have to check with your venue to make sure it’s okay, though.

When you’re hiring food trucks to cater your party, consider what type of food you’re looking for. You may want to have one or two geared towards children, with the same amount for parents or teenagers. A couple of savoury food trucks would be the perfect complement to an ice cream sundae buffet, by the way! So, if you’re going for the full carnival theme, consider hiring both services.

Catering

Catering

If you want to go the more traditional route, consider hiring a full-service or drop-off caterer for your party. You can work with a caterer to customise the menu for children. We recommend using Pinterest to find kid-friendly meals and snacks, there are so many great ideas there! When you’re on Pinterest, why not follow us? We’re sharing useful content on a regular basis. Whether you’re hosting a birthday party or a party for no occasion at all, kids love themes! We know that your kids and their guests will have tonnes of fun if there is a theme to your party. They’ll enjoy getting dressed up and taking part in activities that go with the theme. We already touched on a carnival themed party, which would be really fun in a large, open space, but here are a few more kids party ideas that party planners can help you with!

What are the Top 5 Mistakes in Recent Award Show History?
What are the Top 5 Mistakes in Recent Award Show History?

Given what happened at this year’s Academy Awards, we thought it might be fun to share a few gaffes from recent award show history! In case you missed it, at the 2017 Oscars, the coveted prize of Best Picture was awarded to the wrong film. That’s not even being dramatic, it actually happened.

The final prize of the night, Best Picture, was mistakenly awarded to La La Land due to an envelope-related mistake. After a couple of La La Land producers had given their speeches, it was announced that the award was supposed to go to Moonlight. Host Jimmy Kimmel and two PricewaterhouseCooper accountants even came up on stage to help clear it up. In a crazy twist, the cast and crew of La La Land then handed over the awards to the cast and crew of Moonlight.

In this post, we’ll go over five of the biggest mix-ups in recent award show history, with an honourable mention thrown in at the end! Keep reading to learn more about mistakes that have been made on award show stages.

Check out our infographic of the top five mistakes and then keep reading to watch videos of each event!

Award Show History

1. La La Land vs Moonlight Mix-up

2017 Academy Awards

Since this is so fresh in our minds, let’s start off with the La La Land/Moonlight mix-up. As we said earlier, the Best Picture award was given to the cast and crew of La La Land by mistake, when the actual winner was Moonlight. The mistake was caught relatively quickly, and the awards were handed off to the deserving winners, but this will go down as one of the biggest mistakes in award show history.

The Academy Award for Best Picture is probably the most coveted award in the film world, which makes this hurt even more. But at the very least, the award went to a fantastic film and the mistake was realised before the broadcast ended. We can’t imagine what would have happened if they had waited until after the show ended to correct the error.
