Latest Fitness Trends: Which One is Perfect For You? - Pro Post

May 28, 2021

There comes a time where one must admit that they follow trends. We often scoff at what is trendy, but when it comes to fitness, that’s not always the best response. We consulted a popular Bidvine pro, Petr of Training and Therapies, for what he sees as the top fitness trends.

Whether you’re looking for a new exercise craze or the latest fitness trends, this pro post is for you! A personal trainer like Petr can help you learn the new fitness trends while promoting going to the gym and being healthy.

He did not disappoint! Here are top 5 of the latest fitness trends, followed by reasons why they are important. If you want to learn about the best ways to get fit before the festive season, this pro post is a must read.

1. High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

High-Intensity Interval Training is a training trend that focuses on short bursts of intense exercises. It works different muscles in the body and relies exclusively on using your body weight. It’s actually one of the most popular and most effective fitness trends out there nowadays because you can adjust it to beginners or advanced gym-goers. Plus, it can help you achieve more than one goal: losing weight, toning up, increasing your muscle mass and more. Another benefit is that you can do it anywhere and it takes less time to achieve the same results. That is because 30 minutes of HIIT (if done right) can burn the same calories as one hour of running.

So it’s perfect for people with busy lifestyles or who want to exercise during their lunch break. One of the most impressive benefits still, is that because HIIT raises your energy levels and circulation, it will mean you will keep burning calories through the day, some say up to 12-24 hours. It also helps with your endurance and breathing. Some of the compound exercises used in HIIT include burpees, squats, pull ups, and more.

2. Crossfit

Crossfit is not really a style of training… it’s more of a brand and they own several branded gyms across the world. But the basic exercises in Crossfit rely on HIIT: compound exercises in bouts of 2 minutes followed by rest.

3. Circuit Training

Circuit Training is also best explained in comparison to HIIT. While HIIT normally uses your own body weight and focuses on compound muscles, circuit training relies on free weights and machines so it mostly takes place in the gym.

Circuit training also lets you focus on a specific area, for example, your leg muscles, arm muscles, or back so it’s considered a form of body conditioning and uses resistance techniques. Like HIIT, circuit training also relies on short bursts of exercises for achieving results.

4. Cardio Training

Cardio training strictly speaking means training intended to improve cardiovascular health. Traditionally, it was equated with running, cycling, and similar activities. However, we now know that you can improve your cardiovascular system through the majority of training methods including for example pilates, boxing, and martial arts.

Running and cycling do help to increase the health of the heart. But, it takes longer to achieve the same results than with HIIT or circuit training for example.

5. Endurance Training

Endurance training is a routine that helps people learn how to prolong their endurance, energy levels, and strength for a long time over large distances. It is mostly used by people who are focusing on the duration of the exercise, for example, they are preparing for a marathon. But, you can improve your endurance in general as a result of other training methods like HIIT.

Some of the exercises included in endurance training are cycling, swimming, and running longer distances. Other methods, like HIIT, can complement the training routine.

Other fitness trends to look out for

There’s an array of new trends that are really the repackaging of the methods that we know are working, like exercising to music in the dark with glow sticks! But recently there’s been a huge trend of returning to the basics. Weights have been coming back to style with circuit training and martial arts and boxing are gaining popularity with older generations and women too, whereas 10 years ago it was almost exclusively pursued by young men. Martial arts have a wide appeal today because they help with endurance, self-defence, they are great exercise and great fun!

Anything else to add?

No matter what your goal is, toning, building up muscle mass, or losing weight, and no matter which one of the latest fitness trends you choose, remember that exercise by itself is not going to achieve your goal.

It will take you 60% of the way but the other 40% is nutrition. Your exercise routine needs to be complemented by the right diet. Most personal trainers, myself included, will offer guidance on this that will help you.

If you have special dietary requirements or food allergies, you might need to see a specialist nutritionists. In the majority of cases, a PT can help you with your food plan too.
