YouTube Star is a Top 3 Dream Career for the Next Generation
Do you remember being asked when you were little: ‘what do you want to be when you grow up?’ Oh, the endless possibilities! It’s interesting to think back how our career choices change as we age, isn’t it? Some of us face up to reality and have to become more realistic in our career aspirations while others actually pursue their childhood dreams and succeed!
After we launched gaming coaching as a service on our website earlier this year, we’ve seen thousands of requests ranging from Fortnite to Call of Duty, FIFA and more, which completely surpassed our expectations. We had no idea eSports Coaching would be so popular! So we started to wonder… how have children’s future career aspirations changed in the past 20 years? Do youngsters today dream of becoming Fortnite World Champions? This gave us the idea for this survey.
We polled over 2,000 UK parents on how children’s career aspirations have changed over the years by asking them to compare their childhood dream jobs with that of their children. The results may surprise you! While some of these careers did not exist 20 years ago, others have dropped off the top 10 list. Here’s what the top 10 dream career choices are amongst 4-18-year-olds today.

Sohrab Jahanbani, Founder and CEO of Bidvine.com, said,
“When approaching adulthood, many children have to evaluate whether their career aspirations are realistic so how many future YouTube Stars’ parents were surveyed is yet to be seen. Nonetheless, it’s interesting to see a number of new careers that didn’t exist 20 years ago. Doctors and Nurses are the only professions that held firm in the imagination of children across generations, which is hopefully good news for the future of the NHS. We can only hope that they will have a better follow-through rate than their parents.”
